Kovalev the Magician

Alex Kovalev often called a magician for being a wizard with the puck. Sure he has great moves and he is the most skilled player, and he is the most dangerous player. But today I call Alex a magician not because of his great moves but for his disappearing act. This guy played great for the first two games, he helped the team and all seemed well but where was he the past two games? Where was he to bury a powerplay goal while the Habs were up 1-0? Where was he to tie the game during the last 10 minutes? It seems to me he was nowhere. You may criticize others for not stepping it up but how about criticizing Kovalev for stepping it down?

I agree he has been mostly invisible the last two games but it doesn't help that his two linemates are pretty much doing nothing out there. Also the rumours have it that he tweaked his knee when a Carolina player hit him there, RDS showed the replay.

Kovalev has never played for a round one loser ~ ever!

Who else can say that at such a late stage in their career???

Mark And-o's words...KOVY WILL ELEVATE HIS GAME!!!

...geez guys...don't discount the work of Hedigan and Commodore tonight!  They were horses!

I noticed today that Kovalev was making some great passes. The problem was every damn one of them seemed to bounce over Ribeiro's stick, and the one that didn't went through his legs. I think Ribeiro will need to have a better game next game and receive those passes. Kovalev could take more shots as well, and he seemed to have some problems hitting the net tonight.

I expect a big effort from both of those guys on Sunday!

WOW! Kovy was making great passes? Maybe in the pregame skate. If they bounced over someones stick there not all that great. I noticed him throw it to the wrong point (No one there) I noticed his passes being intercepted, i noticed his play being predictable which is odd for him. The one that went throw Ribs legs was not only an ill placed pass, not only an ill advised pass (Kovy is the shooter, Ribs the passer) but it was bouncing.

I noticed tonight he was very slow getting up & isn't turning as sharp as he had the first 2 games. My money is on a knee problem yet again. Let's just hope it's a small problem & he gets back his A~game for Sunday

I had heard he went for a routine checkup which he will have to do for the rest of his life (bum knee) but they might be hiding something. Regardles if its so bad he can't play he shouldnt play he would only be hurting the team.

We often forget that the little things in red and white jerseys that play the games are.... are you ready for this?

HUMAN BEINGS.

If we were watching a bunch of robots play, then you'd never see off-nights. But remeber that these guys have been playing one game every two days at a level of hockey they have not played all season. It's common for guys to have games where their minds say "go!" but their legs say "no."

Anyone who's ever played organized sports knows this.

Regardless, the mark of a great competitor is if he can bounce back from sluggish performances. Kovy is dynamite in the post-season and he'll bounce back. No need to start the negativity train rolling just because the series is knotted at 2. After 4 games MANY people predicted Carolina would be either done with the Habs or up 3-1.

He only played approx. 16 minutes on Wednesday (then was seen at the hospital) & this game like 21 minutes (& that's with double shifting). Sounds to me like something's up. Leading the team in points/goals, yet is on the ice less & seems to be having some difficulties?

Sounds fishy.

I could have sworn I heard a reporter on TSN state that Kovy was asked whether or not his knee was bothering him and he simply answered "yes" and when asked if he'd play said "yes" as well.

He did not however comment on the nature of his visit to the hospital, only that it did indeed occur.

Kovalev HAS been doing a disappearing act, it's true. Whether it's injury or not, don't know. But the BOTTOM LINE is that he's the best player actually playing with the team right now. So let's hope it's nothing serious. There is no way in hell we can win with Kovalev, Koivu and Begin out, and Markov turning into an average player.

That's not good... not good at all. We missed him bad in Nov/Dec, to lose him now would be catastrophic.

Man, I haven't been so depressed since Koivu got cancer. Koivu and Begin out - Koivu maybe career-ending. Now Kovalev's knee? These are the three best forwards on the team in my humble opinion! (With all due respect to Pleks and the way he's been playing.)

Please Habs bring me good news Sunday night with a win! If the team and its fans ever needed it....now would be a very good time.
