Bonk to play on the first line....

and during this series I have seen flashes of offensive skill from Bonky, the only concern I have with him playing on the first line is he might not be able to play as much on the pk, which he has been great at so far. The article also says Begin is skating again, and he could return as soon as game 5. I have also read somewhere else that Kostitsyn could be playing today.

Radek Bonk prendra la place de Saku Koivu au centre de Chris Higgins et de Michael Ryder


 Vendredi 28 avril 2006 - (RDS.ca) - Bob Gainey fera confiance à Radek Bonk pour pivoter le trio que complétait Saku Koivu avec Christopher Higgins et Michael Ryder pour le quatrième match de la série contre les Hurricanes vendredi.

L'entraîneur du Canadien n'a toutefois pas arrêté sa décision à savoir quel joueur fera son entrée dans l'alignement pour combler l'absence de son capitaine, blessé à l'oeil par un bâton élevé de Justin Williams mercredi lors du match numéro 3.

Mark Streit pourrait disputer son premier match des séries et faire office de septième défenseur. Sinon, Maxime Lapierre, Andrei Kostitsyn et Aaron Downey se sont entraînés et représentent des candidats potientiels.

Bonk a marqué deux buts et montre un différentiel de +1 depuis le début des séries.


Bégin veut revenir


Steve Bégin a recommencé à patiner avec ses coéquipiers mais n'a toujours pas subi les rigueurs d'un entraînement intensif.

Le fougueux attaquant est optimiste et croit qu'il sera en mesure de revenir au jeu dans la série contre les Hurricanes, peut-être même pour le match numéro 5 en Caroline. Les médecins ne se sont toutefois toujours pas prononcés sur la date de retour au jeu du numéro 22.

Yeah, apparently Gainey is hesitant to break-up Pleks, Zeddy & Perezhogin…so, he has opted to drop Bonk into Koivu’s slot!


 


And-o’s only concern here (and I don’t want to appear to be “waffling” on this…or creating an “out”) is that it is asking an awful lot of someone to switch from being almost exclusively defensive in nature into a purely offensive role!!!  Is that fair for And-o to say??? 


 


…having said that, Bonk has the potential to be stronger on the side-boards than Saku has been.


 


And-o just wishes that Gainey hadn’t come-out in the media earlier in the year and proclaim Radek’s role as being exclusively defensive in nature (didn’t that set the bar too low???)!!!

I think Bonk will benefit from playing with Higgins and ryder. Here is why:


Bonk is big Bodied and can play well at both ends of the ice. I think if this line is matched up with the Brind'amour line, it can kind of play out as if we dont score with that trio, you wont either.


defensively Bonk and Higgins are exceptional. If shutting down Brind'amour's line tonite is the task for this line, i dont see a problem. Bonk is a good faceoff guy and battles the boards well. Higgins and Ryder can benefit from his strong board play by opening up the slot.


Bonk has shown us lately his offensive game is returning to form and with two good shooting wingers, Bonk will definately benefit.

Who takes Bonk's spot??


If Begin is ready to go its an easy choice, yet i doubt that is possible.


Lapierre is best for Bonks role as a defensive type guy, IMO.


Downey has the experience.


Kostitsyn has the scoring touch, but I wouldn't want him if its on the fourth line.  We wouldn't be utilizing his strengths.


A 7th D maybe??


 


Anyone hear what that move will be??

But, that is not the role he is going into.  He will be asked to play on the PK, he's been there done that.  He'll be asked to play with goal scorers, he's got 15 assists on the checking line.  He'll be asked to play strong defensively, again, as of late, he has been.


I think most of us will agree that Bonk has become an all around player.  Sure, not the very best at any one portion (maybe PK) of his game, but he has played well enough that the "Bonk must go!!!" chants on this board have disappeared into some promising/positive remarks. 


I'm not sure who I would have gone with, Bonk or Ribeiro.  I (as well as everyone else) am glad I'm not the coach.
