I was heartened to hear Justin Williams inerview and response to the injury to Saku , he was clearly concerned , apologetic and the fact that he phoned Koivu was a demonstration that he is a professional who wouldn't want to hurt a fellow NHLer , it was an unfortunate accident which can happen in the game of hockey
It was clearly not a dirty play. He went to lift the stick, caught Koivu under the visor. It happens on an almost nightly basis, except this resulted in an injury. The only reason this is an issue is because there was no call. Had the double minor been called, all we would be talking about is Koivu's condition and tonight's sweep. No call- Williams in doubt, officiating critiqued, no power play goal, series goes back to Carolina.
It's nice to know that Williams, like 99% of the people who ever lace up a pair of skates and take a hockey stick in hand, is a good person at heart. No one will ever blame him for playing hard, or even for accidentally injuring another player. Glad to hear that he's tried to do the right thing.
