Is this guy tougher than we really think? He's been taking the punishment and dishing some out himself in the 3 games so far. Everytime I look at him on the ice or in dressing room interviews, he looks like he should be a swimmer and not a hockey player. He's really been playing some inspired hockey BUT most importantly...
Recently he seemed to have been much more of a team player. When asked to comment on the loss of Saks he said that his replacement can only be via a team effort. He said that Saks is not replacable by only one player. Huh? Is this really Ribs talking?
A few months ago I stated that the only way Ribs can remain a Hab next year is if he finishes the season strong and has a strong post season. Hmm...
The remainder of this series will be the real test for Ribs. I hope he can pull it out. There is now a huge weight on his shoulders.
We need him big time. I too have been impressed by this guy's turnaround. Contrary to what many believed here, CJ tells me that Ribs was actually a "great team player and a pleasurto coach" I was like WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTT?!??? I think we all, as fans, hope Ribs can get the job done. Personally I am always impressed when a guy turns his life/career around and I hope it is not short term.

Well, I've always judged a player in this way "Is he a big game player - Can he step it up in the play offs?" Look at Kovalev...if he continues to shine in the playoffs, that's what matters. We knew he was a an inconsistent regular season player. It's a completely different scenario once the post season comes along. I'm excited about tonights game...strange but I have those butterflies...
When I read the subject line to this post, I thought it was going to be a thread containing more Ribeiro-bashing. Glad to see it's not. He really has stepped up his play since the playoffs began, and maybe he can do so even more with the knowledge that the team's captain and one of its most skilled forwards is out.
BUT -- I also wonder what did happen to the Ribeiro of three years ago, who seemed to have much more of a scoring touch than the present version. Maybe it's the system he's being asked to play, maybe he's just gotten more focused on playmaking versus scoring -- but he's not taking the shots that he used to take and as a result not scoring the way he did or the way I think he's capable of.
There's a lot to like about this kid --always has been in my mind. But I'd really love to see him take it to the next level and score some big goals for us.

I think one of the problems this season is that too many players tried to become playmakers. They would opt for the pass rather than the shot. I think of Ribs, Koivu, Ryder for a period, Perezhogin...
