Well Mulsy, as one of "those two clowns"...I have decided to briefly summarize the obvious for you (put y'er mouth guard in...and wipe the slobber off y'er chin for a few minutes)!
Saku Koivu...2 assists in 2 games...and technically "brilliant"!?!?!?!?!?
Game one...13:34 of ice (least of Hab centres)...2:14 PP...0:23 PK...10:54 Even...1 shot on goal...NO HITS!
Game two...23:26 of ice (most of Hab centres...out of 82:32 total game minutes)...7:09 PP (as in 3.5 FULL TWO MINUTE MINORS)...1:17 PK time...15:00 of even strength...NO SHOTS ON GOAL...NOT A SINGLE ONE!!! NO HITS...NO CONTACT (except for his arse and the ice)!
Now I ask you...honestly...in EXACTLY 37 minutes of icetime...over a two game span IN THE PLAYOFFS...how many teams get less out of their respective Captains??? (think about it...Saku has played almost 2 full periods on the "top line"...say that again without snickering...and THAT is it!!! PUHLEEZ!!!)
C'mon Mulsey!!! Saku has been a total non-factor! In fact, as has been posted many times...Saku ain't much more than an over-paid Plekanecs at this point!!!
Also...one more question And-o wants considered by Mulsey...what type of production would we get from Plekanecs...or Bonk...or Ribs with those linemates...that PP time...and those minutes??????
...Saku is sooooo NOT the man!!!
Sorry Mulsey...Saku needs to crank it up HUGE! And-o expects wayyyyyy more from the Captain!!!

Oh my And-o...with that comeback...I felt like I just got a love tap from pee wee herman whose wrists had gone limp from....
Now for the knock out...Koivu rags the puck into the Carolina zone...dishes a sweet pass to Higgins...to Ryder...Scores!! In OT!!!
Hey Koivu could have done nothing all game ( he didn't..he won a brilliant face off for an important goal)...but when it really counted..he is on the score sheet.
any way...so what? Why do you guys insist on harping on your fantasy anti-Koivu world banter even when the habs pull out a win?
Now if the habs loss and Koivu is kept off the score sheet...feel free...of course I am absolutely certain you two are just drooling for that day...man that's odd.

Higgins and Ryder would be nothing w/o Saks. He made both of them I feel. Saku isn't the guy to get a point per game, he's playing good too, why hate on him ??? He'll have a great game soon. The only thing I don't like about his game is those unneccessary penalties he takes. Lets not critic too much when we're winning.

Well said but these guys just don't get it!
The only thing that makes sense from their replies lately....LOVE IS BLIND!
How long can Higgins carry Saks on his shoulders before he turns it up?
But actually according to John and Mulsy, Saks doesn't need to play well because his fat contract doesn't technically start till next season. What they don't realize is that he's still our highest paid center with the letter C on his jersey. According to them, his previous playoffs are partly why he's worth so much and when the games count, he's our best player. Why can't we expect it in these playoffs?
Yeah Ab, their love of Koivu is just blind (and really quite remarkable)...and the strength of the herd must be comforting...but the truth hurts!
Just thank goodness that guys like Kovy, Huet, Souray and Rivet continue to hold the fort while Saku continues his "Hokey Pokey".
Honestly...1 shot...NO HITS...NOT ONE!
I tell ya what though AB...like it or not...childish rants...name calling...whatever...Saku Koivu has been the Montreal Canadiens 4th best centre in two playoff games so far (with plenty of ice and loads of opportunities with strong linemates)!
"Brilliant"...that is easily the best thing ever posted here...EVER!!! Sad really!!!

Well good luck you two. Your hidden and bizzare frustrations are really shining through now. Here we are...up two zip and you two seem angry?
You know what?...I only hope McGirl see's who the true villians are around here. She mistakenly called me out(IMO),...but with the OT win and you two churning out negatives after negatives..I'm sure she gets the picture right about now.
In any case...I'm done with this foolishness...I hope Koivu, Ribby, Huet etc all come out strong wednesday. In the end, all I really care is the habs get the win...
Key Lime wrote: Higgins has been carrying Saks all this time????I think the rest of us just feel like vomiting... If you say so but I meant in these playoffs.
Ok then AB, but the playoffs has been a grand total of 2 games...
Listen AB and Ando, I think you've made yourselves clear. There is this common dislike for Saks, and we ALL get it. You've made it crystal clear actually.
Most of us are just a little taken back because of the timing...we want to enjoy the victories. At this point, everything that we continue to say about this topic is just childish. Good luck.
and-o i give you that koivu hasnt been "brilliant" but he's not the worst center in habdon , he is winning his faceoffs , playing good d, and contributing when needed , if we weren't scoring i would be worried , but the fact that we have scored 6 goals a game without koivu , maybe he's concentrating on playing sound hockey .
love is blind yes but then so is hatred from what im seeing does anyone else suddenly get a song stuck in their heads when these arguements arise? ...why can't we be friends why can't we be friends why can't we be friends why can't we be friends....

Looks like An-d'oh's fortress was breached - he spoke in first person!!! Oh my!
I like to think that the new "IN love Barry" is the voice of reason in this "debate". I consider myself the Switzerland of the Koivu debate. Neutral. I have commended the smurf when he does well (in fact I have a personally autographed Koivu picture in my livingroom..hard to call me a saks basher with that).
I expect more from Koivu then I have seen given the fact that he is leading all forwards in average ice time. As I said, in th enew NHL you need more than intangibles for 1/8 of your cap. But then again I expected much more of Kovalev for the price and we are now getting it. Koivu is clearly tired. CJ said as much to me today when I talked to him. He said Saks is a step slower than he has been in the past and just does not have the fire.
Having said that I will not minimize his impact on his linemates or the team. He is an important piece of the puzzle. Is he 5.5 million and no trade important? Not right now. But he has been responsible defensively and is working hard. But both "extreme" sides of this Koivu thing are dead wrong. The pro side are ludicrous saying that "Koivu has been nothing short of brilliant". If Koivu has been brilliant then Ribiero must be spectacular because he has been having an exceptional playoff. And if Koivu has been brilliant, then where does that place Kovalev? "Brillianter"?
Conversely, he is not the flop that the negative side would lead you to believe. Higgins is not carrying Koivu. But then again it is as nuts to say that Koivu is carrying Higgins. Higgins and Ryder are very good players in their own right thank you very much.
So boys..put it to bed already. Saku Koivu is neither near as good as the Pro-Saks side says, nor is he near as bad as the negatives say. He is a decent hockey player who makes an honest effort and chips in when he can. Does he deserve that kinda cash and a no trade clause? Nope. But BG thought he did and he is here for 3 years so get over it.

With respect...I have not once felt you were the voice of reason on the Koive debate...sorry.
Your posts ALWAYS say the same thing...is he worth the money...nope. and...the smurf( a little deragatory don't ya think???). And I have an autographed picture of Terry O'Reilly...and I hated that guy!!!
I once had an NHL player tell me that Koivu is one of the most difficult players to play against.
I think players like Koivu, Brind'amour, Drury...etc are sometimes more valuable than the 90-100 point guys( In fact...if Ottawa has a weakness...it may be that there top 4 forwards are all offensive..Alfy, Spezza,Heatly,Havlat...they don't have a Brind'amour or Koivu type). I think Koivu is NOT a so-called elite forward in this league...but he is extremely valuable for so many other reasons....and I beleive that Plouf once pointed out...the pay given to Koivu is not in that "elite" range...that is between 6-8mil.
I did think he looked tired the other night...I agree. And I do think his positional play was "brilliant" in game one( if you read the post...that is what I said...his technical performance was "brilliant"). But I have said all along...look for Gainey to land a "elite" centerman in the off-season( for "elite" wages of aroung 6.5mil)...which will take the pressure off Koivu.
I suppose though Barry...you likely know more than Gainey
Barry33, lotsa respect and all, but I have to follow Muller on this one. I don't think that taking the middle position is necessarily more objective. That's like saying it would be most objective to vote Liberal every year since they are the most middle-of-the road party.
And so...I will now beat a dead horse
There's a big difference between Mulsy saying that SO PAS L'HOMME played a brilliant technical game (and backing off afterwards) and the extreme attack on the guy that was the first post of AB, for example, following a great win. SO PAS L'HOMME is singled out for special venom at times, in posts that have far more nastiness than the guy deserves, especially when the team is doing well (don't you think SO PAS L'HOMME has ANYTHING to do with this fact?). So some people rise to his defense.
When people post reasonable criticism of the guy you never hear his defenders freak out. Hell, I mention his shortcomings all the time. It's when people make posts that he sucks or that gloat over his bad games, etc...in a way that's totally over the top, that's the irritating thing. Every one of SO PAS L'HOMME's biggest fans has come out in the end and admitted that he's been subpar, or even been some of the first ones to mention it. Can you imagine AB saying something positive about SO PAS L"HOMME without bringing in at the same time a backhanded remark? These guys have a hate-on for SO PAS L'HOMME that has sparked emotional defense of the captain.
But it doesn't mean we are unable to see when SO PAS L'HOMME doesn't do well.

You and Nil'd are wizards with words. You guys always bail me out by putting what I am thinking into a perfectly clear format.
Plouf...You hit the nail so square on the head. Thanks

Ya you are right Muller..Saku for sainthood once again. My points are all valid and backed up and are shared by many people in the hockey world with alot more knowledge than me. And the "know more than Gainey" sh*t is pretty juvenile. I do not go on here making pefrsonal stabs and jabs at people, I just try to express my opinion.

Did I say anything close to Koivu for sainthood? Geez Barry...read the post...I even said Koivu is NOT and elite forward?
Thank you for further validating my point about "the Voice of reason"
And I do apologize for the "Gainey" comment. It was juvenile. Just got all caught up.
I still think you are maybe a tiny bit bitter over the lack of support out captain showed CJ...Sorry...but it just feels that way which makes me less inclined to see you as the voice of reason.
You have been on a big pro Souray binge ever since he came out and supported CJ...Don't get me wrong...I think Souray is great.
We better stop soon guys, before we get that dead horse picture again. Always a pleasure though....
Gotta take out some of the 0-0 tension somehow. Especially with that non-call on SO PAS L'HOMME (including a trail of blood) after SO PAS L'HOMME was himself called not long before on a total borderline play. Inconsistency in the reffing! @#!%
