Hockey Pool, Pierre Bouchard and anecdote
Permalink Closed

I'm crazy - 8 of my 14 pool picks were Habs - geez, why did I only win in 86 and 93?

One of my buddy's had gotten my Pierre Bouchard rookie card from my wife, took it to Montreal in March and had Big Butch autograph it to me - gave it to me last night.

Anecdote - in the 79 play-offs when Jonathon dropped Pierre in a fight I was crest-fallen - in fact to this day my friends can get me on a rant at the mere mention of it - my theory - Gentle Pierre rarely cleaned house in his first fight with a heavyweight - seems he needed one fight to understand the seriousness - he lost to Schultz ONCE - the first time - never again. I vowed if there was a round two with Stan J. Pierre would clean house.

I was sitting in a small Toronto piano bar in the early 80s when a friend brought the fight up just to get me on my rant - when I was finished - my buddy said "Why don't you tell Jonathon that?" I replied, "I would." "Good" says my nasty buddy - "He's right behind you."

I turned around - about 6 Bruins were seated at a table less than 2 or 3 feet from my back - you couldn't have squeezed between the back of Jonathan's chair and mine - "Oops, sorry Stan." Stan says "That's ok I wasn't wanting to fight him again."

LOL, Good one Cleghorn. Hey, no shame in losing one to Jonathan anyway, he was a helluva fighter. At 5 foot 8, most of the big boys had problems with him, they probably weren't used to ever fighting a guy that small. He was a little bulldog for sure!
