Yesterday, I was watching OTR on TSN and they were having a discussion about which goaltender should start in the series with Carolina. Everyone there was in complete agreement that it should be HUET that should start seeing that he has the best save percentage in the league and that he carried the Canadiens on his shoulders after the Olympic break. They were also in agreement that Bob Gainey screwed things up with HUET by playing Abeischer all those times. In there words: "RIDE THE GOALTENDER THAT IS HOT" ... something BOB did not do.
Let's hope BOB gets a CLUE and picks HUET to face Carolina.
Bob couldn't just ride Huet into the ground. I think he made the right move. Aebi needed to get some wins in and when it was "obvious" that we were in the playoffs, that was the time to do it. Aebi proved he can win and now we have 2 goalies that can do it. I'd be comfortable with Huet because he has shown us many times what he can do. Either way, both goalies are virtually unknown to Carolina so maybe we have that going for us. I'm sure they've scouted them both somewhat but it might play a little in our favour.

Totally disagree with you Figaor. Gainey totally mishandled the goaltending situation in Montreal and showed surprisingly little knowledge of goaltenders and their psyque. Huet was far from the point of being "ridden into the ground". Brodeur is older and played every single game for the last 2 months down the stretch. All Gainey managed to do was place some doubt in Huet's mind as to his value to the team. As far as Abby winning, his GAA is 3.71 and his save percentage is .887..nuff said.

barry, I was just reading this past post of yours...
Gainey has been nothing short of brilliant in his use of goalies down the stretch!! The fact that Huet was hot and had 7 shutouts in 20 games is not relevant!! Kudos to Bob for going with Abeschier who has a GAA of 3.71 and a save percentage of .887! No question that this brilliant piece of coaching has helped Huet's confidence immensely (and will REALLY help Gainey when he talks to Huet's agent this summer :o)
...seems to contradict what you just said?????

Huet has never played a ton of games so no sense in pushing him to the breaking point, which is unknown. Brodeur played 100 games a season for the past 50 years and never tires so you can't compare the 2.

I've gotta agree with you Figaro. At first I was shaking my head at Huet not playing. But after Aebischer got a couple of semi-ugly wins where his play was improving I started to agree that it was a good idea to rest Huet and get Aebby in game shape. Gainey's biggest worry is probably Huet has zero playoff experience, but I'm happy he's going to give him the chance to get some.

I've also said that in the past few weeks. Another thing a lot of hockey people say is, that Jersey plays Brodeur way too much in the regular season and he his prone to tiring out in the playoffs.
