It's hard to stay in a hard fought tilt when a ref (that fat one with the Oliver Hardy face) has you playing short-handed all night! I bet his name's on a chit at Rick Tocchet's place.

I thought the Habs looked pretty damned good from start to finish - killed crappy penalties, no one took any guff.

Stir in Begin, and I think it bodes well for the play-offs - 3 or 4 Habs will be in my play-off pool picks (14 player pool). I've won our play-off pool twice in over 25 years - 86 and 93 - and I'm going for the hat trick in 06.

It is amazing how much the Habs miss Begin. We win these games with him in the lineup.

He should make 5mil/year on the intangibles alone on this team.

I find posts like this somewhat lacking in character myself.

Demanding character from one's team, but the first to dump on them when things don't go your way.... How about the way this team has played since the Olympics? I don't even think they've looked as awful as all that in the last week, to tell the truth - at least not in terms of effort. They lost, yes, but this is not necessarily a reflection of their character. I saw serious effort and commitment in the Buffalo game, and I was disappointed that so many posters couldn't see it. Sometimes you lose EVEN IF you show character.

Couldn't agree more, especially when we're about to make the big leap...

I thought the Kovalev preformance tonight showed a lot of character.  That is one good thing to build on.  He was involved offensively, defensively, and physically.  If he shows up like this for the big dance, the Habs could be a tough team.  Great sign of leading by example.  Man am I looking forward to seeing Kovy in the playoffs.  BTW there were also a lot of others that should be mentioned too, I am just out of time.  Big brother is always watching.

I thought they played really well last night but the Devils were on a mission in the third.

Kovy lit it up & our passing seemed a lot tighter (except when the Devils put on the pressure, then I saw a few mistakes) I'm confident that had Bégin been in yesterday's game.... the end result would have been different. Not worried yet, yesterdays game proved nothing (except that Kovy will rock the playoffs) & nothing was lost because of it. We are in & our season keeps rollin' on. Can't wait till Saturdays game

When is everyone going to stop with the preschool excuses!!!!! The team gave up another lead in the third with less than 10 minutes to play, and the second game in a row at HOME that we give up the lead in the third! PLOUF, you cant keep bringing up "oh look at how well the team has played after the olympics"Give me a break!! When we lose in the playoffs, i ll be looking for that same sentence from you!  they gave up as soon as the third began... they sat back and thought NJ wouldnt even battle. But hey, NJ wanted it 10x more than the team in Red... Yeah great effort last night, but guess what, we didnt even show up in the third! You dont lose if you show you want for the entire 60 minutes! half hearted efforts and not enough guys pulling the same direction! Kahuna, next time you complain about something, ill make sure to put my two cents in your post:wink........  and Brooklyn, what big leap?????

He was an assist away from the Gordie Howe hat-trick (goal, assist, fight).

Hey, they totally fell apart in the third and lost to a better team.  What more is there to be said? Not the way I would have liked to enter the playoffs, but part of me is just glad to be in the playoffs.

Reading your post again. And I stick by what I had to say in the first place.

Stick your neck out and try to say something positive after a loss, try to say something that just isn't sweeping generalization. Try to put some real analysis in there. It's easy to complain about a team that lost and call them gutless or whatever. Of the games I've seen the past month, effort was rarely an issue, in my opinion. Lack of skill, mental lapses, fatigue, undersizedness, there's plenty to criticize. But I think it's weak to call out the character of a team when they've just suffered a blip in form after a strong month.

You have to take some risks, believe in something, show you are willing to look bad if you are a true fan. The hokum I see spread around here about how clear-eyed and objective it is to "take a stand" against the Canadiens failings, as if being a hockey fan is about objectivity. If it was about objectivity we probably wouldn't even have predicted the Habs would make the playoffs this season. If it was about objectivity I'd probably give it up and root for the Hurricanes. They sure look good lately.

Nothing wrong with criticism, and I've got no problem with being realistic (e.g. accepting the reality that we probably not win the cup this year). What gets me down is what I consider the easy way out: sour grapes, calling your team crap each time they lose, not giving an honest effort its due, making dire predictions on a weekly basis that rarely come true, without ever coming out and admitting you were wrong when (surprise surprise, we made the playoffs...where are all the boo-birds coming out and admitting their error? I honestly haven't seen one.). It's just as weak as not being able to admit that a win was lucky, or that goaltending has been saving our bacons.

Been sensitive long, I never said you were whining, I said to feel free to blast me if I started.  If you want to read more in to that, that's you, not me.

I missed typed that hate line, it should have read "I hate it when people", not I "hate people who", my bad, dumb typo...sorry!  I should not have used the word hate at all, too strong (dislike would have been more appropriate), because I hate nobody on this board...I don't know any of you so hating you would be really foolish, wouldn't it.  In my lifetime I've witnessed the Habs win 12 cups, so I'm not exactly used to the Habs losing.

I did comment a week or so ago that I'm tired of us backing in to the playoffs, does that put me off your sh*t list

Tough loss to take but if anything it hopefully is a wakeup.  We cannot sit on a lead....pressure, pressure, pressure.  Things were looking rough about the last 8 minutes and a well timed "Time Out" could have settled our guys down.

I have to admit, AB likes a little emotion and those that speak their mind rather than the boring and delusional..."Oh everything is just so positive and I'm so self-righteous because I see no negatives and it makes me such a strong Habs fan that I'm so offended bit"..PLEEEEEESE!

Sorry, but be careful not to sound so self righteous by trying to contrast those that have real emotion as it comes off sounding robotic and phony.

Lets be real folks...this is a sports forum not an "I'm more positive than you challenge board"

I do respect optimism if it's just as genuine as pessimism.

It takes all kinds of personalities to make up a forum, so don't jump all over someone just for being genuine to their feelings at the time of posting. Especially when you don't get trashed for being such a contrast, that it's phony enough to fit you in with Mr. Positive but boring.

Sorry but I had to get that off my chest. It is why I respect all posters and especially guys like Saku 11. He comes off sounding like a real person rather than a phony saint.

This post isn't directed at anyone in paticular but I'm sure you know who you are. You don't have to be a rebel but just be yourself with real feelings.

plouf i wasnt joking... iam really not the type to argue, i am a really Hockey passionate guy and i sometimes let my emotions take over! so i realized i was a little over the edge so i decided to let all know i apologized!
