Playoffs -- Carolina or Ottawa?
Permalink Closed

After a turbulent season, the Habs are officially in the post-season.

So, who would you rather face in the first round: Ottawa or Carolina?

The Habs have had some recent success against the Sens. However, Havlat, Redden, Philips, Chara, and Fisher will be back in the lineup. Hasek will be out, at least for the first portion of the series.

The story has been a little different against the 'Canes. They've had the Habs' number all season long. Eric Staal is amazing. Cole, the other Habs killer, won't be around. Gerber, although having a good season, is untested in the post-season. Also, we should not forget to mention that the 'Canes have beefed up with experienced vets in Recchi and Weight.

And it's time Hasek pays for his remarks back on Nov 29.   You've forgotten?  Well I haven't.  Montreal lost 4-0 to Ottawa in Ottawa.  I was there.   By far the worse game I ever saw.  Habs only had 14 shots on goal.

And Hasek, after the game was apologetic for having such an easy game that he thought he didn't deserve a SO.   Well hopefully he will eat his words even iof he's part of the walking wounded.

GOHABS!

Ottawa for a few reasons:

Better regular season record against Ottawa - I think we match up better against Ottawa than Carolina who murdered us this season.  Utimately this doesn't matter because the regular season goes out the window, but it is at least a preview.

Traditionally Ottawa chokes in the playoffs and we have already felt the wrath of Carolina in the playoffs.

Hasek is very likely not playing for the first few games of the series.

Ottawa has been playing like garbage lately - 3 wins in last 10 games.

Lots of Habs fans in Ottawa and more will make the trip.

I want Ottawa as well, would luv to see the Habs make Hasek and Phillips eat their words from the loss against them on the 26th of January. Phillips was actually taking on bets at the bench that the Habs would not get 10 shots on goal during the whole game. Unfortunately , Hasek probably will be a no show as when he played with Detroit and bailed when playoffs came around.  As for Phillips, he is still nursing a sore knee and is day to day.

-You should hear talk radio making all kinds of excuses for the Sen's poor showing this past Saturday in their loss to Toronto.

-Pierre Maguire states that Huet is overated!!!

-Coach Murray prefers to play Tampa Bay because they are weaker defensively than the Habs are - Tampa plays a more similar style to the Sens, more offensive, thus take more risks which the Sens will capitalize on. Blah blah blah

In one of those odd "New NHL" quirks, both teams have a winning record against the other (4-3-1).

Weird, isn't it?

Hard to say - do we want a team we might beat (Ottawa) or a team that we need to spend a lot of energy on (Carolina).  You have to think that anyone getting to the finals will have to get through Carolina.  So do we want then now or after we've had a tough series?  I'd prefer not to lose in round one, so I'd take Ottawa but let's hope that we have gas left for round 2.  If I remember correctly, our last 2 playoffs, we ran out of gas in the 2nd round and lost to a Cup finalist.

Prediction - if we get Ottawa, 6 games Habs win. If we get Carolina, 5 games for Carolina.

I think we can take Ottawa, Carolina, not too sure, though we owe them a shellacking, too...

i guess i will be the odd man out and say canes, why, because i like to see the canadian teams go far into the playoffs and i hate to see a canadian team put out in the first round! don't sell yourself short, the habs can win with a hot goalie. what i would like to see is the cup come north, bring the cup home!

As much as I would luv Ottawa, the Hab slayer against Carolina has always been Cole.  He is injured and will definitely not be ready for the first round.  This might just be the time to go thru Caroline in the first round.

That's great news, and makes the 'Canes vulnerable, since he (Cloe) was the Hab-killer.  I now don't care who we meet first; I think there's a chance either way, especially with a hot goalie.
