Saturday night, during the Habs Sabres game, RDS had Markov wired up. During one of the commercial breaks we hear Markov speaking to Kovalev in Russian.
Anyway RDS got hold of a translator and what was said in the convo was Markov asking Kovy what the Tampa score was. Kovy replied "I don't know. Why?". Markov replied welll if they win I need to contact my agent to get me a flight back to Russia.
RDS is planning to lead their suppertime sports cast with this story.
I think he must have thought the habs would be eliminated, and so he would need a flight... Doncha think...
Shouldn't he have a better grasp of the situation that that? I find this thing quite perplexing. I don't know what it all means - or why it's newsworthy.
Call me stupid...............

I was watching the game that night on RDS and it was Kovalev who was wired up and when him and Markov were talking, it seemed as though they were joking around. They were laughing together. So whatever Markov said must have been a joke. I am sure he understands the situation ... he is not stupid. The situation would not make sense any other way. And I do not understand why RDS would make such a big deal about it ... it was merely a situation were two friends were joking around. I do not see a problem with that.

I agree. Let's not try to drive Markov out of town because of it. Because if he is constantly bothered about this, he just might be asking his agent for a flight out!
Tampa and Atlanta are hot on the heals of the Habs. Only two will qualify for the post season. The Habs either need a point (versus a team that Markov obviously thinks will beat them)...or Atlanta needs to lose one game. However, even if Atlanta loses a game, if Tampa wins another game and passes the Habs...the Habs will face Carolina (with ZERO CHANCE...as Markov's comments indicate).
Guys, seriously, stop acting like sheep and believing whatever you hear. How do you know the translator isn't 1) stupid 2) Making it up 3) heard wrong. Or that this 'source' is legit?
Markov is a competitor and wouldn't give up that easy. And Ando, when you reach a certain level of hockey, you've devoted a lifetime into the game, you aren't just gonna throw the season away cause you figure the team you will be playing against will beat you. You go out and fight harder, and give every inch of your body to playing the best you have ever played. Me thinks you haven't even played a sport with the attitude you throw around here sometimes.
It's a good thing RDS decided not to air this story. It would have brought on negative attention. And making the playoffs is in RDS best interests since they own their TV rights ... hence more playoffs money for the sports channel.
I doubt they will air it in future because the Habs ar now in the playoffs.
It's like they were trying to make news in case there was no other to report. Seriously, this was really blown out of proportion. I think Markov really likes being with the Habs and would love to stay and the whole "catch a flight thing" was a joke between chums.

My sentiments exactly, two buddy's sharing a joke and staying loose...no big deal.
