WILL CANADIENS EVER HAVE A SUPERSTAR TOP TEN SCORER AGAIN
Permalink Closed

SO HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN NOW SINCE THE HABS HAD A PROLIFIC SCORER ON THE TEAM...I BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE SEVENTIES TO LAFLEUR. WASN'T IT EXCITING TO LOOK IN YOUR MORNING PAPER AND FOLLOW SOMEONE THAT COULD CONSISTENTLY PUT UP NUMBERS ON THE SCORE SHEET.

AS A FAN U WANT TO SEE A PLAYER BATTELING FOR INDIVIDUAL STATS LIKE TOP TEN SCORING.

I KNOW THAT WE HAD NASLUND AND BOBBY SMITH WITH HIGHT TOTALS DURING THE FLUKE 1986 CUP VICTORY. MANY OF US THOUGHT THAT STEPHANE RICHER COULD BE THE NEXT ONE. HE HAD EVERY THING GOING FOR HIM -- SPEED, CANON SHOT AND HIM BEING FRENCH CANADIAN MADE IT EVEN MORE SPECIAL. HE GAVE US 2  50 GOAL SEASONS BUT PAT BURNS MESSED HIM UP.

IT SEEMS THAT ANY ONE THAT COMES TO MONTREAL WITH SOME OFFENSIVE BACKGROUND FROM JUNIOR OR EVEN FROM A PREVIOUS NHL TEAM WINDS UP BEING A DISAPOINTMENT IN MONTREAL. WHY IS THIS? IS THE MANAGERIAL/COACHING PHYLOSOPHY EVER GOING TO CHANGE?

LOOK AT THE FIRST ROUND PICKS THAT ANOTHER MEMBER HAS POSTED. WHY HAVE SO MANY (IF NOT ALL) OF THEM FAILED. ALFIE TURCOTTE, WILKIE, STEVENSON, HAINSEY.  THERE MUST ALSO BE A PROBLEM WITH PLAYER DEVELOPEMENT ONCE THEY ARE DRAFTED BY THE HABS.

I can't bealive your forgot Gilbert Dionne on that list of of busts. He had so many shades of becoming an all time great but it just never panned out. I think we can all agree that the habs managment of the PAST was awfull at assesing talent. I think our future is bright with Trevor Timmins (SP) and Andre Savard at the helm of player devolpment. Hopefully Latendresse will end up as a steller forward for years to come.

The strange oddity about the Canadiens glorious history is that there have only been 4 players with multiple 50 goal seasons: Rocket, Lafleur, Shutt, Richer.

I heard this stat once. Am I mistaken?

I just searched and could not find a multiple 50 goal scorer other than the 4 you mentioned. Boomer did it once, Yvan Cournoyer was very close a few times, and John Leclair did it multiple times...after we traded him *%&*&%.
