So, are we in now???????????

I didn't see a definitive answer to the question of what happens if the Habs and Thrashers tie for eighth place.  Is Wins the tiebreaker?  And if so, can Atlanta possibly get more wins than the Habs?

The suspense is killing me - have we clinched yet???????

To answer half of my own question: After tonight's action, Atlanta has 40 wins; we have 42.  If Atlanta wins their last three games and we lose our final two (all in regulation), they would have one more win.

So the questions remains: Would they (under the scenario outlined above) be in and we out?

Yep, our magic number by my count is 1/2, but the good news is both Atlanta AND Tampa would have to pass us to knock us out, the Loafs cannot catch us and right now Tampa would have a tough time passing a 1978 Pacer loaded with bricks and needing a valve job

If I understand correctly, if Atlanta wins all the rest of their games, and Montreal losses in regulation all of their games, then Atalanta is in, Montreal is out.

Good imagery!

I forgot about Tampa being in the mix.  They play Carolina twice and Washington, so their schedule is a tough one.  We may well see Atlanta and the Habs in, and Tampa out.

Fine with me.

Even worse, but better for us I guess, If the lightning lose all their games (which they could very easily do) and the leafs win out (which they could do the way they're playing) all that would be needed for the leafs to get in would be 1 Atlanta loss. ANYTHING could happen in the next week, but I like our spot, all we need is an OT loss to clinch.

According to TSN this morning- Habs clinched a playoff spot last night. Thrashers can only tie Habs now, and Habs won Season matchup against Thrashers, so apparently Habs are in. Can anyone confirm this?

That would be exciting news, Father, except for your less-than-reliable source.

This from NHL.com.  The first tiebreaker is Wins, so I conclude we're not in yet, as Atlanta could end up with more wins.

Tie Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).

2. The greater number of games won.

3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.

4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

What TSN are you watching????? Their website cleary states " habs beat bruins to near playoffspot" and I watched Sportscentre and they mentioned that a Habs win and Atlanta loss or O.T loss would clinch it for the Habs. So much TSN bashing going on here then why do the bashers keep watching it.

Good question, Andy.  I bash, but if the Habs are on I watch.  I have no choice, since I don't get RDS except on Saturdays (via SRC).

Plus I like Jennifer Hedger, despite disparaging remarks made earlier by others, and Bob MacKenzie.

And............(cue the sound of squeaky hinges as I come out of the closet).................I'm starting to like Pierre McGuire.
