I spent some time earlier this year in his home town of Leamington, Ontario. Maybe some of the contacts I met there can get me in touch with him. Man would I love to be his booky
I just went for breakfast here in Calgary and who sits down at the table next to mine?... Darren McCarty and his family!... Ya it is a sad situation indeed... I felt really bad when people at my table starting talking about the bankruptcy situation... some people have no tact.
I also found it funny when I went up to pay only moments after he did and saw the newspaper on the counter that read "IN TOO DEEP" with a full paged photo of his face. That's got to be uncomfortable. I also heard a little tid-bit today about his alimony payments to his ex-wife taking up most of his current income. Gotta feel for the guy right now. Maybe another beating from Shelley would make him feel better.
And from what I have heard he is a fantastic guy, gives to the community like no one else. Why could we not see something like this happen to a more deserving guy? There are so many NHLers who forgot why they started playing, and they coast through life with no worries. A guy like McCarty gives his heart and soul to the team he plays for, the community that supports that team, and still has time to support his home town. It is a shame to see a guy like this suffering.
I live in Calgary and everybody here loves McCarty...including his teamates. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few months ago and having some beers with him and I can attest that he is an absolute beauty and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

Like I said, I spent time in Leamington earlier this year, and they love him there. He showed up at the grand opening of their Applybee's and gave them all kinds of Wings gear, and a few autographed Jerseys. Imagine an NHL player coming to a resteraunt grand opening? What a gem of a man he is.
