A Scintillating Picture..............
Permalink Closed

I was having a noon-day skate at the old Halifax Forum yesterday, and afterwards went for a quick walk under the stands, looking at the posters and displays showing the history of the old barn, decade by decade.

In the 40's section, there was a picture of the great junior team the Halifax Saint Mary's, and a picture of a young man who started his broadcasting career calling their games up in the rickety gondola.  None other than the late great Danny Gallivan.

It almost brought a tear to my eye...................

And I may be biased (as a Hab fan and a Nova Scotian), but I think Danny G was waaaaay better than Foster.

I'm with you Nil, I grew up in Montreal listening to Danny Gallivan and NOBODY is in his league. I never cared for Foster Hewitt and always felt he did not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentance as Mr Gallivan.

Agree fully.  I also thought Gallivan and Dick Irvin, who was mentioned in an earlier post, were a great team for years.  Gallivan's son, Danny Jr., is a prominent lawyer here in Halifax.

I also didn't care for Foster Hewitt's nasal voice, and his son Bill was just as bad.  He only had one line "Keon played a great game........."

Compared to Danny....watching Foster was kind of like watching paint dry...in my opinion, Danny was the best.

Yup, as nearly always Nil, yer right.  Danny was the best, all the way from the scintillating saves in which Dryden's glove came out in rapier like fashion to Robinson's cannonating drive followed by Cournier picking up the rebound and doing his infamous spinnarama around the leafs defence before putting the biscuit in the basket............geez, ya woke me up there for a second......nufsed........normie
