I don't want to be so hard on any Hab but I can't deny what I see. What I see is a player named Ryder who has suddenly convinced himself that he's playmaker. He's never done this in the past...he holds on to the puck just to loose it when he enters the oppossing zone. It's about 4-5 games that he has been doing this. He does not have the speed nor the stick-handling abilities to hold to the puck for so long. Last night he tried to enter the zone 3 times and got pinned on the boards just to loose the puck.
Micheal, stick to what you do best, score goals. Get yourself free in the slot or in front of the net and let your linemates pass you the puck to create a scoring chance. Can someone convince me that he is a first line winger because I really don't see it? I still think he's an asset to the team but something has to give.

I don't get this whole Ryder thing. He has had a pretty good season. I actually think he is doing really well with the passes. I can't recall the goal, but a couple of games ago he fed a terrific pass into the slot for a goal( Higgins).
I would argue he has been one of the habs most consistent players all year....

I sort of agree, Key, and sort of disagree. Ryder does hold onto the puck too much at times - and more lately; I've noticed it too - although he does not have the affinity for the disk that Kovalev does. Ryder's abilities in that department clearly do not warrant this puckhoggery.
On the other hand, his skating is getting better, I think, and his play has gotten more physical, and his attempts at impersonating Kovalev are, I think, an indication of self-confidence in his abilities. That can only be a good thing.

I agree that in general he's had a good 2nd season but he has not been one of the most consistent players, by far and away. I wish there were replays of countless shifts that he's been taking lately where he's slow and holds on to the puck. I think if we had a player like Bulis with Higgins and Koivu, that would make the line more dominating come playoff time. It's a bold statement but it's based on the last 4-5 games that I've seen Ryder perform this way....and please don't take this as a "Ryder thing" but if there are others speaking about him, it means that something must be up...I repeat, he's an asset to the team BUT certain aspects have been more evident lately.

I have been somewhat let down by Ryder's play of late. I am particularly thinking about the 5 on 3 against NJ. 4 times he took the pass down low to the right of Brodeur, and four times he stepped in front of Brodeur and fired it into his pads. I couldn't believe that after two times of trying and failing, he couldn't see that perhaps a pass was in order. He has scored some remarkable and desperately needed goals this year, but, cripes, there are others on the team that can score a goal or two.

Ryder's strength is shooting, no doubt about it. And, he's a decent passer I think. A great stickhandler he isn't -- and while he has okay speed, he can't make use of it when he's got a puck on his stick at all. That having been said, I hope it's one of the things that the coaches are working on with him. And there's no better place to test out new capabilities than in a game.
Ryder needs to pick his spots and stick to his trengths in close games. But I'd be delighted if he was really working to become a more complete player. Even if it means a half-season of learning those new skills.

the habs all suck. thats why they are in the playoffs and are arguably the hottest team in the league.
we all know souray sucked, streit sucked, markov sucks sometimes, komisarek sometimes sucks, ryder sucks, ribeiro sucks, koivu sucks, bonk sucks, sundstrom sucks, zednek sucks, bulis sometimes sucks, kovalev sometimes sucks, murray sucks, perezhogin should be in the ahl, plekanec should be in the ahl, aebischer sucks, higgins kicks ass, huet kicks ass, begin kicks ass... so i guess in hindsight, if it wasnt for huet, higgins and begin, we would suck even worse.

Now that was funny. And sadly very true around here. Oh and you forgot to mention...according to Barry...Gainey and Carbo suck.
Let me go on record as saying...I only ever picked on Ribby...he DOES suck.
why pick on ryder? 29 goals, i don't remember how many assists! the guy plays hard every night and his line is working. change the line that is producing, just as well ask to change the color of the jerseys to pink because it looks pretty! leave the top line alone, leave ryder alone! you want to complain about something, complain about the defense no look passing which was resulting in scoring chances for other teams!
Who's picking on Ryder? I repeat for the 10th time....I think Ryder has had a good season overall. In my title I'm actually asking you all to feed me with some a way of making me see things differently.
I was just wondering if it's was just me who has been seeing Ryder hold on to the puck way too long...SOMETHING THAT I'M NOT USED TO OR COMFORTABLE SEEING HIM DO. ...That's it...Wow! You guys are being so darn sensitive lately. I'm not bashing anyone or saying that anyone Sucks (you got that Mr. Kevin?...don't put words in my mouth). I'm an unconditional Hab fan...no matter what! Why don't you answer with more productive responses instead of being sarcastic. You're new to this board...if you want to waste a post by accussing me of saying things that I didn't, go ahead but you won't get too far...

personaly i love watchin ryder but you may be right about him stickin to what he knows but remember he is still young in his NHL career and hes still got a lot to learn and right now i guess you can say he's learning his own limitations. and possibly trying to work on his weaknesses (such as puck handling etc) the reason why you should stay patient with him is the same reason why you need to be patient with all young guys because all these mistakes lead to learning which leads to a better player ryder has improved a lot from last season and i believe he will continue to improve in seasons to come
Ryder is a good second-line player who will become a very good one once he learns to play a complete game (which he will learn fairly quickly from Carbo/Jarvis). He will be a big part of this team for a long time to come. For a guy drafted in the 5th round, he is doing great.
My sentiments exactly Habtastic...he already is valuable to the team. It just was concerning to see him start doing more than he's suppossed to. I just think that goal scoring is his forte and like I stated a few days ago, Ryder is a potential 40 goal scorer.
(you got that Mr. Kevin?...don't put words in my mouth).
i responded to barry's post and quotes from members about what is so consistent about our team...no where did i say "key lime says ryder sucks"... talk about putting words in mouths.
