Maybe I missed the thread, but I haven't heard a word on Aebi's win. I mean, there were plenty who were quick to jump on the guy but now that he's proven why we totally got the best of the trade, where has everyone gone? # 30 made some of the best saves I've seen in a long time and seems to have regained his confidence and settled into things with his new team. Now, I might only have caught the hilights from both his wins over Ottawa, but he makes 80 save over 2 games over the firepower over the Sens and no one seems to want to talk about it. (Again, maybe I missed the boat.)
i thought he played an amazing game tonight, his second in a row. hope he can keep it up because it is really nice to have 2 goalies that compete and push one another. it will provide both goalies with plenty of rest going into the playoffs and if one goes cold, the other can step right in.
Figs, he's proved nothing man. He's played 2 brutal games, 1 ok 5 goal game and 2 pretty good games (that makes him a 500 goalie by my calculations). I'm happy to see him improving, and hope it continues, but he still was far from perfect tonight. Yes he played well, but his rebound contol, although better, was still less than ideal. He also had some close calls with disaster tonight. But as I said in the game thread (that's where all the Aebby talk is Figs), he looked positionaly solid and is improving. This is good news for Habs fans!
It's just silly to judge the trade at this early point, in fact it's utterly pointless to judge the trade at all as it was a trade that HAD TO BE MADE mostly for non hockey reasons...ugh.

Wow Kahuna. He has put up 2 wins against the team that is tied for second in the LEAGUE. With the abysmal performance by the defense in front of him, he played pretty fricken good. Theodore is gone, and not coming back. The only reason people are calling this a good trade for the Canadiens is because he has proved that he can be a decent backup and they dumped a whole pile in salary cap space. Nobody has crowned him St. David or anything. They are giving him some praise for two HUGE wins.

Whether the trade was good or not will be decided after this summer when Gainey has used the cash that was saved and Aeb's future has been clarified. yes, the trade had to be made, but whether or not it was a good trade can not be judged as of yet.

Check the game thread, I was the first one saying he was keeping them in the game since the first period. I gave him tons of praise for a good game. I don't question that he played a really good game last night, and I was as happy as anyone to see it. But, there are people on this board (at least one in this thread) judging this trade already, calling it the habs win trade...and that just shows a complete lack of understanding of not only the trade but of hockey.
It took Aeby a few games (& big losses @ that) to get his game back.... if indeed it is back.
Theo has played one game.... grant him the same "timeline" before judging the trade in favour of us / them. Ya take out the 2 goals that were scored before Theo stepped in & it was a close game. He did play approx 55mins, almost a whole game.
Aeby looked great last night.... I give him props for that, Woo Hoo Aeby

I will concur that Aebi was great last night, but I can't say he looked great. His style - flopping all over the place, down a lot, forever to get back up, partial catches, rebounds aplenty - does not instill confidence in a guy.
But perhaps it's the Dominik Hasek Syndrome (DHS) - anyone watching him play for the first time would have a nervous breakdown - until the game was over and won by a shutout. His style is weird (flip flopping all over the place, dropping his stick, covering pucks with his blocker hand, etc.) but it works for him, and the team knows it and has confidence playing in front of him. Maybe it will become that way with Aebischer. Maybe all we need is time to get used to it.
At least I'll tell myself that for now................

Also let's not get too far ahead here. Ottawa is decimated by injuries and playing very poorly the last little while. Yes it's a good win, but don't kid yourself that we handled the top team in the league with ease, they've lost 6 of their last 7 games, heck, even Washington beat them. Not to take away from a critical win, but let's not delude ourselves here.

Absolutely. This will be a different team when Chara, Hasek and Havlet get back (not sure on the timeline for Havy and Chara). Still, you have to think that their confidence is a little shaken losing 2 in a row to the Habs and the Habs evening the season series. I don't think the Habs are afraid of them anymore.
I never gave up on Abby, so I take some pride in his win last night. I thought he played a hell of a game. He's looked pretty good in both his last 2 games and his confidence is only getting stronger. Nice to be able to roll 2 goalies if you have to.

I have to agree with Nilsy here. Abby kept most of the pucks out of the net, but he didn't really look solid doing it. "Flopping around like a fish out of water" is how my 11 year-old characterized his work last night. And if you saw the replay of the second OTT goal, you had to wonder what Abby was looking at. As he's moving to his right, the puck is getting tucked into the (vacated) left side of the net.
Objectively, the jury is still out on this guy. If he can win ugly, then fine with me. But I think that the ugly part is an inherent part of his style.

Ohhhhh the joys of being a goalin in Montreal

Still too early to judge who won the trade, but for Montreal's part in it, they got exactly what they wanted and needed. They dropped a guy who had no chance in Montreal and ate up a big chunk of payroll, and got a decent goalie in return and some extra cash to blow next season.
In reality, unless Theo takes Colorado deep into the playoffs, or puts up All-star numbers next season, the scales tip in Montreal's favour.

Good points all, but I still don't understand why people need to rate a trade that Gainey really had no choice in making. By freeing up cap room and getting a goalie you could use verses one that no longer fit in, to me that's a win right there. If Theo becomes the next coming in Colorado, that will hurt habs fans, but it still was a trade that had to be made and we got good value considering the situation.
The other side of the coin...I'm going to be shot for this...what if Aebischer is the next coming

Aren't we all
So get this, I figured I'd spend the night watching a rare Loaf game, just o watch their final nail being hammered in...and it's not on anywhere here! 240 channels and zero Leafs?!?! Has the Leaf nation completely written off their heroes? I seriously can't remember the last time a Loaf game was not telivised. Man, this gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over.

Do you want me to update you? Or are ya tuning into it on the radio?
I'll be flipping between that & the Tampa / Atlanta game.

I still can't figure what the heck happened on that one! What kind of electromagnetic or centrifugal force pulled him completely away from the puck? The puck didn't have to be "tucked" into the net; there was nothing but mesh staring Heatley in the face!
Oh well, we won, so I'm not knocking it.

I think he was trying to help Heatley break the record
