One off season move that would radically upgrade the Habs would be , the acquisition of a power forward. A strong physical winger that could combine a physical presence along with goal scoring ability. Two players that could fill that role to a certain extent at a very inexpensive cost due to a histroy of injuries, that are available as ufa's are Owen Nolan and Eric Lindross. Both players are past their prime but still could have an impact on a smaller Canadiens team. Realistically both players could be acquired for a reasonable cost. Unfortunately, both players bring a lot of baggage with them. Both have poor reputations in the locker room. Lindross is again complaining of poor medical diagnosis of his most recent injury with the Leafs, just as he complained about the Flyers misdiagnosining his concussions.
Despite the baggage, if Gainey cannot land a better option would it be worth the risk to gamble and sign one of these guys? The Canadiens are badly lacking a power forward, and even in short supply both of these players could at the very least impact on the power play. If the price was right under Gainey's tough approach would either fit in?
I think Latendresse could make the team next year and I think also that I would prefer to go after another young power forward by using Perez who could be replaced by Kostitsyn. My real hope, along with landing a top D, is that we could get Arnott... he would solve a lot of our forward problems. I have a feeling that he will re-sign with Dallas though. I don't think there will be anywhere near the same quality of free-agents available come July 1st that there are now. With the cap limit going up, many will be re-signed.

Lindros in Montreal??????????????never will happen!
I'm with you on both, but I will say I gained a lot of respect for Tucker at how fast he got up after Kovy ran him over...I lot of guys would have wonered what zip code they were in after a hit that hard
Actually, I liked the Big M, and Gilmour (and Dickie Duff too), so I have nothing against Leafs coming to Montreal - but I do against a burnt-out racist like Lindros.

Racist? Was he really a racist? I hate the guy, but I wouldn't go that far.
I liked Gilmour too. Not too many other leaves that I would want soiling our seaters, though. I can't even think of one leave that I would ever want on our team.

Wouldn't call him a racist. He just didn't want to play for the worst team in the NHL at the time, the 'Nords. Agreed that he is a selfish prick, though!!!

Let me share a Lindros story with you. I first met him at the Toronto airport as he was getting ready to move to Philly, before he ever played a game in the NHL. Myself, 3 of my buddies and Lindros were all shooting the breeze for a good 10 minutes. He was a wide eyed kid, friendly and very open. He was telling us all about his apartment near the Flyers practise rink. We were having a really good talk...all of a sudden his mother Bonnie apears out of nowhere, grabs him by the arm and says "Come on Eric, time to go". The poor guy looked so hurt and embarassed. Eric is a product of his overbearing, and in my opinion, greedy, parents. I've never forgotten that moment, so maybe that's why I'm more forgiving of Lindros than others. His parents made him the way he is. I really think he tried to rise above it and they just gave him bad advise upon bad advise.

I liked Doug Gilmour, when he played for us. When he went back to the Leafs to retire, not so much. lol
His jersey still hangs on our wall though. He was a good substitute while Koivu was kickin' cancers butt.
BTW ~ Did ya get my message Kahuna? Thank you sums it up.
Okay, okay I admit it, I liked Gilmour & Frank Mahovolich and forgave them for being Leaf's...sheesh, you guys really put a guy on the spot
For the record, Ken Dryden was my guy when he was playing...hell, I even bought and read his book. I completely disowned him when he became the Loafs GM. That's something I can NEVER forgive him for! I came damn close to burning the two autographed hockey cards I got him to sign before he became satan
