Ribs & Kovy – Now’s Not the Time!
Permalink Closed

Where’s the chemistry that existed for so long between Ribs and Kovy? It hasn’t been there in multiple games. Now’s not the time to become mediocre boys!

Finally, Koivu and Higgins get the first line going and are firing at all cylinders…and all of a sudden the second line is playing average. Ribs and Kovalev were on the power play all night, it seemed, but they were just flat. Zednik’s play surely doesn’t help things but Ryder is nothing to write home about either on the first line. Home ice advantage, against a bad team, and destiny in your own hands…step it up guys!

Between Ribs and Zednik's poor play on that line, it's gonna be tough for Kovy to do it on his own.

Gainey shouldn't be afraid to pair him up with Pleks...

I actually feel bad for Kovalev.

Did anyone take notice of the fruity play by Ribeiro down low with about 3 mins left in the third???? He tried to clear but got "spooked" by a Washington player and did the shiver to avoid the hit...gave the puck away too.

That boy has no guts at all.

Why not put Plek up on that line and just sit Ribby?

Get Bulis back in and put him on the 2nd line as center.

That's what I just said...bring back Bulis and him play on a line with Kovy & Pleks. BG should really consider it.

Just gotta say though. Kovalev's only got points in one of the last four games. But before that he scored in 16 of 18 games, so it's no reason to panic yet.

If Ribeiro's starting up the "get me outta the way" thing again, though, he must be burning out, or hurt. Johab did mention he's nursing something. Maybe he needs to sit another game or two to recover and bring back Bulis, as people suggest. Bulis MUST be hungry by now.

I was liking the way Ribeiro was playing all of a sudden, so let's hope he gets back on track.

Something must be bothering him. BG now has the luxury of sitting players out because our role players are really playing well. I'm sure Ribs or Zed will be out of the line up against the Bruins.

he may well be hurt.   i love him when he plays like the game is personal.   he is a waste of space otherwise.   he had a stretch just recently where he threw the body around, created turnovers, etc.   didn't see so mucha that tonight.   saving his glamor moments for the playoffs?

...but things can change quickly...he can't save it for the playoffs. We have to make them first. He'll get going again for sure.

Ribs really can't catch a break here, eh? No one ever gives him the benefit of the doubt. Although it is refreshing to see a FEW posters here wait before jumping down his throat.

I thought he played an average game. The few times he looked bad he made up for with the few times he looked good.

Ribs is an enigma. He's got heaps of talent, but he's a headcase. With a guy like Ribs, you need PATIENCE. Plus it's not like we're paying him 3 million a year. He's signed to a relatively cheap contract, so it's not like we should be expecting THAT much from him anyway.

Pablo, I really don't agree. A player is not getting paid a huge salary and that gives him the right to be off? MY POST IS ABOUT THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN KOVY AND RIBS THAT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN LAGGING LATELY. If I thought Ribs was crap, would I care? No, I think he's a headcase that has so much potential to be very good. Kovy and Ribs were very consitant until the last few games. It's just concerning. Can some poster's catch a break sometimes too...read the post properly before you accuse.

Get Zed out of the second line bring in Bulis on left wing. Zednik is playing horrible. The chemistry between Ribs and Kovy will be back, Ribeiro didn't play well so....

A) No, I agree. However, when the players getting paid 4-6 million a season catch less flack than the guys getting paid 1-2 million, I think it's a valid point that needs to be adressed. We need to assess who our best players are supposed to be and judge them accordingly.

B) My comments weren't directed at you, the starter of this post. Head your own advice before going on the defensive.

I've been saying it all year, Kovy needs linemates.  I think Ribs and him play well together, its the Zednik factor that is bringing this line down.  Man that guy needs to pass the puck.  I thought Kovy was good last night, but it almost looked like it was him against the Caps when he was out.  He needs a little help.

The biggest problem with the Ribs-Zed-Kovy line is that all three players like to carry the puck into the O-zone before even thinking about making a pass (with Kovy and Zed only starting to think about a pass when three players are converging on them).

Also, what's up with Ribs' new favorite spin-o-rama, behind-the-back, backhand, blind pass?

Was there ever REALLY any chemistry between Ribs and Kovy?  I've never seen them lighting the lamp on a regular basis?  Chemistry to me infers that you are avg. one point (or close to it) a game and scoring on a consistent basis.

Well, maybe chemistry isn't the right word to describe that fact that their game does compliment each others. For a long stretch of games, the two players played very well together but now it kind of died down...it's not the time.

It kind of bothers me that everyone always talks about how good Kovalev is.  If he is as good as the praise he recieves, this guy would have 100 points right now.  I like him and all, but I just don't think he can ever be as good as his potential talent because he has no desire or heart (Tucker elbow aside).  Why do we have to keep shuffling the lines to suit this guy?  If he is that good he will adapt AND MAKE THOSE AROUND HIM BETTER!!!  Not the other way around.

Gold sticker on that one, 24.
