I was playing around on the QMJHL website....wanted to see what the habs drafted from there....yeah we have Latendresse, but this guy is impressive to me....check it out.
Name Pos Team HT WT Shoots
Mathieu Aubin Center Lewiston Mainiacs 6"2 190 lbs Right
I have seen Aubin play up the road in Lewiston and he definitely has a knack for putting the puck in the net and seeing scoring opportunities. Not the fastest guy on the ice, but decent speed and tough on the puck. I can see him developing into a steady contributor.
Lewiston is playing against Halifax in the QMJHL playoffs. There's a game tonight in Halifax (in the old Forum, due to a scheduling conflict - the Junos are in town), and it's on local cable TV.
I'll try to keep an eye on Aubin and give you a report in the morning.

This kid is not a Montreal draft pick yet...but I pray before I go to bed every night (he is my son lol). His season just ended at US prep school. Yes I am a proud Dad
Congrats, Barry. What school does he got to? I am a graduate of Westminster in CT and played against most of the New England-area prep schools. Lot of good hockey players in the Founders League down there, including at one time Brian Leetch. I wasn't particularly good myself but my golf game is all the sharper for it!

Wow..big boy and he's only 17? What the heck do you feed the kid?
Hard question? Do you see in him the qualities it takes to make it?

To be honest no I do not Key Lime. He is solid fundamentally. tough as nails..but his skating would need a ton of work (he has size 14 skates) and he really does not have the desire or the work ethic required to make it. He will (and I will) be quite happy if he can parlay hockey into a scholarship at a Division 2 school in the USA or perhaps at a Canadian University.

Wow!
I shouldn’t really generalize from the 30 minutes or so of the game I watched, but I sure like what I saw.
Aubin had 2 goals and an assist and was named the first star in a 4-1 Lewiston win.
The kid is huge. He plays the PP (on the point) and PK. He’s a good backchecker – I saw several good defensive plays – and has a howitzer of a shot. He’s also very smart: On one Lewiston PP, the Mooseheads seemed to be clearing the zone; Aubin lifted the player’s stick, stole the puck and made a perfect pass to the right winger parked in the corner. One pass later, the puck was in the Halifax net.
His first goal was a beauty, as he simply outraced the Moosehead defender, held him off with his massive size and swerved around him and beat the goalie with a backhand.
His second goal was another beaut. He was going down on the left side (he shoots right) and unleashed a blast that went through the Moosehead defenseman’s legs, more or less, and beat the goalie on the glove side, just under the crossbar.
I even saw some grit, as he mixed it up one time when things got a little greasy in front of his goalie.
The only knock I could say is his quickness, but I think this is deceptive, partly due to his size. His feet do not move fast, but his legs are so long that he is deceptively fast skater. Sort of like Frank Mahovalich, for those of you who remember him.
So man, if first impressions mean anything, sign him up and ship him to Hamilton as soon as his team are out of the playoffs!
