We've got the Isles, Caps and two games vs. Boston coming up. If we win all four, which we should, it will be very hard to keep us out of the playoffs. But can this team muster the intensity they had against the Leafs and get the job done? It'll be a good test of their fortitude. Let's hope they pass it.
Not to count chickens before they hatch or anything, but assuming they do, there's a chance that the Habs could finish as high as 6th, meaning that they could conceivably play Ottawa, Carolina or Philly if things stay as they are at the top of the bracket.
Who would you rather have the boys play? We've played the Sens tough in a couple games, and given Philly some trouble, as well. I'd rather see us play one of them. Carolina seems to have our number. They play physical hockey but also have good speed, and I think their goaltending is better than the Sens or Philyy can muster. Gerber is the real deal.
Philly or Rangers. We've proven repeatedly that we can beat both those teams. Ottawa we can beat, but they always put up a good fight and they're tough games. And Carolina is a no brainer; they've had our number all season.
We're gonna play them sooner or later if we want to win the cup. If you want the ultimate prize, you need to beat the best. There's no easy road to glory.

Seriously. I'd rather the Habs play the Hurricanes in the first round and have a shot at eliminating them before anyone sees the Habs as a threat.
In addition, I actually think we can beat the 'Canes. I was there live at the last Canes/Habs match and it was clear who the better team was. But that was with Abby in nets and I honestly think that Huet can steal the series for the Habs.
Huet > Gerber.
Imagine the momentum the Habs would get from eliminating the best team in the East in the first round?
I don't know...last time we played the Canes, they were down 2-1 and stormed back to take the series and embarassed us in the final 2 games. We've never really matched up well against them and they are a lot stronger this season than years past, as shown by the 4-0 record against the Habs. Why take take the hard road? This team isn't built for the cup, yet.

Watch out for Boston They beat Canes, Ottawa , Buffalo , Tampa Bay this past week or so. And They almost beat Luonga and the Panthers. It went to a shoot out. Their top line Bergeron Boyes Sturm are on Fire. If the Habs can stop that line we should have a good chance to win both games. Now for the Playoffs, I would like to play Philly,Sens and Canes in that order
Philly. We can beat them with speed. And Pablo, I here ya' dude, but remember in 93' that there were teams that were supposed to win the Cup, but went down early or were so beat up after a series that they were easier to eliminate... that is what I am hoping for! Once you are in, you never know...

Very good point, Habtastic. The Habs were barely better than an average team that year, but every team better than them was upset, so the Habs ended up playing weaker teams all the way. Even LA in the final was a relatively easy series.
I say bring on the Flyers!

Barely better than an average team? They had 99 points I think it was, in the regular season. Turn that into the 105 points or so it would be in the new OT system, and it's a pretty impressive record.
They were just unlucky to be in the best division in the NHL, and it was only good for 3rd. I think the power of the Adams division went a long way toward changing the playoff format, because it was pretty much unfair at that point.

OK; I concede they had a decent record that year - 102 points (I just looked it up), but still, we were third in our division, and 6th overall in the NHL (one point ahead of 7th). Hardly an overwhelming favourite to win the Cup.
The stars were properly aligned that year..................
