Paul Dana crashed his car into Carpenter who had rebounded off the wall after his crash and was T-boned. Dana hit him at 200 mph.
This was during warm up laps.
Sounds like Dana is actually a journalist who has only been racing a year or so. A 30yr old rookie.
Some early reports are that the drivers in front of him slowed for the crash and not realizing why, he blew by them. It could be due to a rookie mistake or that he didn't see far enough in front of the lead cars to see it.
Anyways, this was a sad day for that sport and that young man's family! The race must go on but with a heavy heart, I'm sure!
OMG Ab - I just saw the video for the first time. Brutal!!!
What would have prevented Dana from slowing though? It seems that the cars around Carpenter were slowing, the yellow flags were out, there are coms on the cars.....?????
My office roomie was showing the video clip to someone at work and I had to leave my office. Can't watch that one again.
I am not a race fan but some of my buddys are and they said he should have been told through his headset what to do. I forget what the term for this eye above is but it was a terrible screw up by his team.
I guess now, they're realizing he ignored the warning lights. It sounds like a rookie error that could of killed Carpenter also!
I heard one comment on TSN that by ignoring the warning, he killed himself. Also that he was an amature that was able to round up the sponsership. This sport should be about having the proper skill to race not about who can afford it?
