There has been a ton of Ryder-bashing over the last month. Much of it was well-deserved. Nonetheless, 4 goals in 6 games is a good retort. This is the thread where those who bashed Ryder incessantly can place their humble praise. Starting with me.
Good post Plouf. Like I said before, when he isn't scoring, he looks silly. When he is scoring, he looks good. Ryder is a goal scorer.....plain and simple!
It's the one demension we really need on this team. We need him to score goals. If he doesn't, he isn't doing his job!
Ryder actually has more goals this year than he did in his rookie year, his shooting percentage and shots are up too. Still there's no arguing he's been slumping most of 2006 and may have been bitten by the sophmore jinx. Here's to the beginning of a roll!
The knight Ryder is doing pretty good...altough i think he wasent doing a great job in the late because he was trying to play finesse plays trying to shift the D but he dosent have the skill required to do so...he has a great wrist and slap shot and he should stick to doing so....altough he still leads the canadiens with most shots on goal...unlike koivu...i cant wait for him to get his scoring hands back...really dissapointed these days of him

I've always disliked his game because his goals, most of them are garbage, rebound goals. But yesterday's top shelf wrister was a beaut. So hmm I guess he has just a goal scorer and wow how about that pass over to Koivu last night, maybe a new talent hah
how about this stat, Ryder and Bonk have the same amount of goals, in the past three games. At the beggining of the year who would think that meant they were both doing well? Go Ryder. Go Bonk and GO HABS

Actually Plouf I, for one, will not be eating crow over Ryder, Koivu, or Kovalev finally showing up. I sai dit 4 weeks ago that in order to succeed, we needed our best players to be our best players. And that is exactly what happened the last week..and I say it is about time! Having said that, I am happy they got it together when we needed it and hopefully before it was too late. Go Habs

Wow, you must have hated Phil Esposito then A goal is a goal is a goal! Some garbage goals just mean good instincts and being in the right place at the right time.

thats exactly what this teams needs someone in front putting away rebounds
What I was trying to imply is that umm he's kind of talentless. He's speed is above average, he can't really handle the puck, he can't pass half the time, he's a pussy and can't puck handle along the boards, but I guess he does have a knack for finding the back of the net off rebounds which is good for the habs. But I know that he won't have too many highlight reel goals throughout his career like Kovy.
Pass some of that crow over here too. I have bashed Ryders slump a few times myself. But the one thing I will say is that I may be eating crow right now, but man is it ever sweet to be eating it for this reason. I am a big Ryder fan, and it was a toss up on what jersey my wife was going to buy me this year, 27 or 73. But when he is not scoring it is easy to take pot shots at the guy. Lets just hope he keeps it up, 30 is just around the corner!
Hey those were all well deserved bashes. You cant expect your leading goal scorer not to score in 12 or 13 straight games, its just not acceptable. We became disgruntled and lost patient with Ryder and said what we felt was needed to be said. We have to realize players are going to slump sometimes and we will say things we feel at the moment,so its just the course of a pro athlete's life. If ryder Doesnt score a goal from now until playoffs, What would you say??? its ok, he'll bounce back......or bench that brick handed loser? It differs .
But when he is not scoring it is easy to take pot shots at the guy.
...UMMM, yeah!!?? When anyone isn't scoring they seem to get bashed on here. It's just par for the course. I've been one to give Ryder some some well deserved shots lately, but he's scored his way out of my negative books for a while. I'm ok with the garbage goals too!

You should - it's a gift to be able to score lots of those! You may laugh, but if it's that easy, why isn't everyone doing it, huh? It's not the shot that's so smart, it's knowing where to be.
Guys like Phil Esposito, Steve Shutt, Steve Larmer, Dino Cicerelli and Dave Andreychuck made a career out of scoring so-called "garbage goals", and are (or will) be in the NHL Hall of Fame for doing just that.

I remember from my younger days, people ADMIRED guys who would stand in front of the net, take the beatings and score the goals that Ryder does. Granted the physical punishment is probably less this year than in the past, this is how those type of players were educated.
Coach "Ok Mike, you don't scate to good, even for a twelve year old, so just stand here and swat at the puck, ok."
Little MR "Why Coach?"
Coach "Trust me kid. You'll score thirty in your second full season with Montreal"
I loved players like Cam Neeley, Mark Howe and the goalies that hated them, Billy Smith, Ron Hextall
Whoa! I know that all those guys potted garbage throughout their careers. All I'm saying is that Ryder scores a lot of plummer goals and he's not exactly the "sniper" that we all made him out to be. Nice final goal against Pitt, but he usually pops in goals on the power play or on the doorstep. I assure you, I don't care how he scores them, either.

Read the post that opened this thread. The critics (which included me) were right! He was sucking.
It's only fair though, when the guy scores 4 goals in 6 games, that we give the guy his props too. That's all I'm saying.
Oh, for sure and I think everyone does give him his props. I would like to see Mr. Ryder be a little more consistent. I just hope that he doesn't go hide away for 12 games again...
