This is awful, we need these points but the bigger question is Abby 3 ganes 15 goals so far. We need a stronger back up than he is. Would you all bring up Danis and send Abby down ???? What other alternative is there??? I am so very sorry I was so right in my pre game posts about Abby But I just had the gut feeling this would happen.

Right you are.... I said it all last week in my post "Get rid of Aeb". I'd rather have Danis then Abby any day.
Well, think we are "stuck" with Aebi for the rest of the season. He needs more time with Rollie to learn some skillz. I think he'll be with another team next year IF Huet signs in Montreal. We've got the prospects to replace both, if need be, but that would be a step back. Good news, though, is that the Penguins filled Aebi's 5 goal quota and we still won. Scoring a bunch of goals will do that for ya.
Honestly, let him learn his skills in the AHL. Hamilton is out of it (12th in their conference), send Abby down, any other team would for a goalie who just allowed 15 goals in 3 games at a time when the team just can't afford it. Yan Danis proved to be a reliable backup, so bring him up for the last 11 games and reward him with 1 or 2 starts. Nobody on the team will have ANY faith in Abby at this point and Gainey's got to be really afraid to start him when the worst team in the league shells him not once but twice.
I don't think we can send Aebi down without going through waivers anyway. So, we'd lose him. Some might think that would be just fine but I'd disagree. He's had some pretty good #s as a starter. This just is a bad start.
True enough, losing him would mean we gave Theo away for nothing (some may be ok with that, but not me). It's just so frustrating to see a goalie not only play so bad, but there's so much wrong with his game right now there really may be no hope for him at all this year. Yes, goalies do go through slumps, but like I said, Abby is truly doing nothing right from what I'm seeing. Hopefully it is just a slump and butterflies, but I really think it's more than that.

Guess it's not fair to judge the guy so soon....not easy to come in to play in a place like Montreal......if it were earlier in the season...we could afford to "wait and see". We are, however, in a race for the playoffs. Huet has proven himself.....we need a reliable backup which is all Abby can be at this point. Danis? Probably wouldn't be much worse than Abby. I do feel for Abby though. He has not been given much time to to make much difference.
I do have to say though that I feel much better when Huet is in net.

Don't we all!
Good to have you back, Mrs. H. It's been heated around here of late; nice to have your calming influence back on board.

They can send Abby down for a "conditioning stint" in the AHL and call up Danis. Should be something worth looking at.
Abby just doesn't have it right now and the team is not confident in him. I don't want him back in net before training camp next year, maybe then he can do something and prove his worth, but the games now are too big.
sorry, but, i think abby played pretty good last night. i thought that the defense didn't make it easy for him by coughing up the puck and leaving him all alone, can't stop everything and he did make some good saves.

Well, I didn't see the game, so I'll take your word for it that he made some nice saves.
But I saw the replays, and I'd say of the 5 goals he allowed, at least three were very stoppable.
It's not so much the results I don't like, it's his style. He is not playing "big" and square to the puck, cutting the angles and filling up space. He is awful at handling the puck. He's always out of position, he flops downs too much, and takes forever to get back up. He doesn't seem to have great lateral movement
(Other than that, he seems OK...............)

I think the Pens scored 5 goals with 0 scoring chances, the only chances were created by rebounds on 20 foot shots that Abby couldnt handle.

A goaltender that gives out big or uncontrolled rebounds on almost every shot is not on his game, that's just a fact, and Abby was giving out some of the worst rebounds I've EVER seen a pro goalie give. I will say he made 4 or 5 solid saves with no rebounds in the third, so at least there's hope for him.

Nil, I agree. Every time he flops around like that he reminds me of Hasek (but without the quick reflexes to somehow stop the puck).
He's slow on his skates, plays small and seems to stay on his knees long after the puck is cleared. The rebounds are SCARY! 20 ft. rebounds when you are out of position, Abby, is not a good thing.....

That seems to be how a lot of goalies play this days...started by none other than Patrick Roy. Watch Huet, he's rarely in a hurry to get up and often slides across the crease in butterfly. It's probably a percentage thing, take away the low shots when you're a bit out of position. Abby seems to do the same thing, no big surprise as he's a student of Roy while Huet was a fan of Roy...but Abby's timing is not where it needs to be right now for this style.
