Hooking is also illegal in the NHL

Out of all the new rules, the zero tolerance hooking is destroying the game!

I can understand the hooking from behind but when a player has proper body position such as lateral or forward on the puck carrier, he should at least be able to put stick on stick. It's no different to me than lifting a stick with a stick to steal the puck. The puck carriers feel the slightest hook or disruption and they go down like they've been shot.

Those penalties are taking the flow out of the game.

It's also letting slow or inferior players look like the Rocket. Heck, even Domi can go end to end now!

If a player can skate hard and catch the puck carrier with good body position, he should be able to slow up the player.

No way should teams like the Laffs who the refs love be able to win games without scoring 5-5. Way too many border-line hooks and holds.

If the refs would allow a player to be held up other than from behind, slower and less skilled players would have to move the puck quicker thus creating more neutral ice turn-overs. Notice now most turnovers happen in the offensive zones because the carrier can cruise through the neutral zone while the defending forwards just follow. They then wait for the carrier to make an error on pass or shot, and the defense move the puck back up to them to turn up ice again.

Way too many whistles and marginal penalties. If they have to keep the zero tolerance hooking then improve on it, I would have it so if a player dives, he gets the only penalty while the infraction penalty is cancelled.

The players & Refs have had almost a full year to adapt to the new rule changes - if some players are slow learners or try to sneak an illegal move by the Ref and they get caught so be it as long as the calls are called fair both ways - a team like the Leafs especially their defense is probably one of the slowest teams in The NHL & The Habs are in the top half of the league in speed & quickness why should a team be fouled or do fouls and not pay the price - bottom line use the stick for what it supposed to be used fer........shooting - passing & highsticking/slashing etc....

Adapting to it or not, it shouldn't be zero tolerance. If players would be givin more freedom to check a player when they have body position, there wouldn't be so many marginal calls that are ruining the flow. The puck carrier should have added pressure of skating faster or making a good pass, rather than wait for a little tug and then go down like they've been shot.

I guess I miss the old NHL in that regards. I actually like 5 on 5 hockey. It takes better players and plays to score goals. Now every 2 minutes there's a marginal penalty that you don't see called in peewee hockey. Are they men or babies? I would rather see a hard hitting low scoring game over a no contact game full of silly penaties any day.

All this league needs now are special team coaches because you don't need to score 5 on 5 anymore. If I was a coach, I would tell my players to fall down every time there's a stick on them. 99% of the time you'll draw a penalty without the diving penalty.

I've been patient with it all season and their isn't any less penalties now than at seasons start. The calls are just as pathetic.

I hope the powers to be take a long look at these types of things and make some changes. Does anyone think that hockey will again be the sport it once was right up there with the national pasttime  baseball??????
