[ Don't kill me. I'm just providing information here.]
Montreal plays a bunch of blah teams next:
Toronto twice and the same three we just played over the next five games.
Now....I know we did not impress (understatement) against those same bunch of minnows lately, but I'm glad we are playing them rather than hot teams like say Carolina, Buffalo, Ottawa, Atlanta etc...
So there's a small light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe New Jersey and Tampa Bay will continue their recent lousy play and we will rebound. Never know. At least we have goaltending, unlike TB.
I do suppose that a little bit of positivity is needed in such times.
Suffice to say, I'd rather see my team earn their way into the playoffs than rely on bad play from two other teams. If we skid into the post-season, our exit will certainly be swift.
But the next few games are crucial. The fans have supported this team all year and we deserve to see our team make the post-season. Let's hope the Habs actually show up. There are certainly no excuses to be made with a schedule like that...

Thanks Plouf for trying anyway lol. I had to watch the Toronto game last night because I am on the road and it is all I could get. I have to say that they are playing with much more heart and fire than the habs right now. Their best players are stepping up. Allison has 6 goals in 6 games and Sundin has been really dominating out there. Throw in decent goaltending and they are going to be very, very tough. Like it or not, but our whole season comes down to this Thurs and Sat.

Kill you? I'm thanking you! After going through my morning reading of the post-game threads, it was only your hint of positivism that coaxed me off the ledge.
Thank you, plouf!

Compared to the way The Leafs fought for their win last night, the Habs' effort was lackluster if not pitiful. I do believe they're trying, and that most players on the team do have heart, but they have forgotten how to compete at the highest level and truly give 100% every shift (see Ryder & Zednik for perfect examples). Also, there is a decided lack of skill with our players (see Ribeiro, Bonk, etc) that keeps them from winning the battles, large or small. Any team that has scored as few goals as the Habs have this year should not even be contemplating playing in April -- and especially when we've given up as many as we have.
I love Ploufy's enthusiasm and I hope he's right about our chances, but sadly, I don't think it's going to take one of the higher-ranked "hot" teams to end the Habs' season. The team, with the help of some lower-echelon opponents like Washington and Long Island, are doing it in textbook fashion all by themselves.
I certainly didn't think the Isles deserved that one last night. Huet let in a couple soft ones and DiPietro played really good. I thought that they played ok, but their scoring touch has totally gone south. They had a lot of chances and their PP looked good except zero finish.

Yeah they did do a good job of that. Ryder seems to be a pure genius at that. I just didn't think they played that bad. Not nearly as hungry as you think they should have played, being in their position, though.
