I think the Habs did a great job in containing argueably, the best player in the league. Besides his body check on Rivet, he was a non-factor (until late in the game when he got one past Huet's legs but the game was already over).
P.S. Was this the first time we witnessed 2 fights in the same game this year? I sure feels like it...I'm already smelling playoff hockey.

The Habs also did a great job of containing Crosby on Saturday (although he had a nice assist on that weird Andre Roy goal). The Habs seldom get beaten by the star players; it always seems to be the fringe players, the Andre Roys of the world, that score the big goals against them.
I'm sure that's not the case in actuality; it just sticks with you longer when it happens..................

That is funny because I was thinking the same thing last night, after they (almost) shut-down Ovechkin. Maybe they concentrate on the star players and let guys like Ryan Malone through the defense. Either way Pittsburgh should not be scoring 5 goals on us AT HOME, or ever for that matter.

Not to be a rainer on parader, but Hanlon sat Ovechkyn for the 2nd period and most of the 3rd due to "disciplinary reasons".

I guess I should have known that our defense doesn't really have that kind of shut-down power. Ovechkin's goal was pretty nice, though. That guy is incredible. Can you imagine if we had a game breaker like him? I'll bet you we would have 7 or 8 more wins with him in the line-up.

Hey 24 I am not knocking it..this team is very responsible defensively. Gainey and Carbo have done an awesome job (but then what do you expect from 2 of the best defensive guys in the biz?). I agree with needing a game breaker. I think that they thought they were getting that in Kovalev (he has the potential). When was the last time we had a guy like that in a Habs uniform? Was the curved stick even invented? Which leads one to wonder, why not? Have we been drafting that poorly. trading away potential game breakers, or a combination of both? I mean lets be honest. When you have spent 10 years just squeaking into the playoffs, you should be drafting in a decent position, or at least be able to trade up. How is this for sobering? The last guy we had in the top 50 (yes FIFTY) in league scoring was Stephanie Richer.

Barry, it's been discussed time after time that the Habs don't want another Mega Star player...it's just their philosophy. Is this true? It must be because the Flower was our last Superstar. Even if your draft picks are horrible, if you really want a game-breaker, you pay or trade for one.

I think the Habs would give anything to have an Ovechkin, Crosby or Phaneuf in the line-up. Every team in the league would want a player like that.
I think it is a case of we haven't had anyone to trade to obtain a superstar and I think a lot of players avoid Montreal because of the pressure cooker that it is to play in.

Depending on the player...some players thrive in these pressure cooker sitauations. Furthermore, look at the period since we've had a star. It's almost unbelievable how long it's been.
LOOK AT THE YANKEES...ALL THE STARS KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE LOOKED AT UNDER A MICROSCOPE BUT THEY DON'T MIND PLAYING FOR THE YANKS. BOTTOM LINE, IF STEINBREINER WANTS A TOP PLAYER, HE GETS HIM.
Is it because the last 2 cups we won, we won them without a real supertsar? The organization feels that we don't need one and would rather build a team with quality players that gel. My point is not that a superstar will win you a cup, but if you build a team around that star, your chances are much better. I say sell the summer house to get Lecavalier...
If your going to sell the summer house at least get someone better than Lecavalier. He's a great player, but not a game breaker. He also has a massive contract - totally overpaid for his production. Maybe you suggested this because he would want to play in Montreal and he would appease the francophone faithful?
