...Bob Gainey needs to shoulder much of the blame for at least the past few weeks of Saku's slump!
Why is Saku not skating full-time with Kovy and Zed? That line...love them or not...should be made to sink and/or float this team!
If Bob Gainey is too stubborn to reunite this line (and And-o thinks that is exactly what is happening here), why not place the likes of Bulis and Higgins on Saku's wings full-time as a really solid checking line (with offensive upside)???
Why on Earth is Saku Koivu getting parked in front of the opposing net on the PP? Shouldn't Saku be stationed along the side-wall more (where Kovy is now...and bump Kovy back to the point until Markov returns)???
How realistic is it to have Saku out-muscle opposing d-men for rebounds? Quite frankly...Saku is far more effective when he is given a chance to shoot and/or look for a passing opportunity from the slot area!!!
Why is Saku getting anywhere near 20 minutes of ice per game, especially given the obvious letdown he is experiencing???
Bob Gainey hasn't proven to be very logical...in my opinion...in terms of personnel decisions!
Regardless of how you feel about Saku (and you all know how And-o feels)...I say that Gainey should at least give the guy a chance to succeed!!!
Saku has stunk lately...that is pretty much fair to say I think...but Gainey hasn't helped this situation AT ALL!!!
Short shifts...fewer shifts when able...more space...less defensive burdens - this will get Koivu logging some points for the good guys!!!
(...but please DO NOT attempt to face-off Koivu versus Sundin this week...or the Habs (and And-o) are likely going to get golfing soon!!!
Why Koivu is not on a line with Zed and Kovy is beyond me. He is not the player to be parked in front of the opposition's goal on the PP or at full strength. He does better when he can set up a play, rather than getting bounced around in front.
I don't know what Gainey's reasoning is there - a divide in the d-room perhaps? I for one don't get it.
I agree about he KKZed line being reunited... I remember thinking exactly that when they resigned Kovy... I was ecstatic to have those guys get a whole season together. I think the reason it didn't happen for long was because of the play of Zednik. Like it or not he has been playing like crap almost the whole season and especially early on.
I would think that maybe he has learned his lesson at this point and maybe it is time to get those guys together again. The thing is that no matter how bad Koivu and Zed are playing they are USUALLY trying their best... the same cannot be said for Kovy. Perhaps the work ethic of those guys could rub off... because having him on a line where he is essentially the leader just won't work night in night out.
Watching Montreal's CFCF - CTV news sport report with Ron Reush: and they showed today's practice...and...FINALLY, FINALLY a player only meeting held at center ice with Koivu doing all the talking!!!!! All players looked interested in what he was saying. Hopefully this will get the habs winning again.

Sounds like they're taking this seriously, GGH.
What was Reush's "take" on the proceedings, if any?

Obviously Koivu read my post calling him out
