well we all know the people n this board that get on about how fragile koivu is , i find it ironic that as soon as ribiro starts showing up in the trafic areas he gets injured . since he came into the league koivu played like a man a foot taller and his smaller frame would wear down , ribs was always a periferal player but recently (to his credit) he started to go into trafic and gets hurt , i hope he doesnt get discouraged and start to avoid contact again .

Every player gets hurt here and there. Some more than others. He may not miss any games. If he does...oh well, he's just a third line center!

Good point macneil.

AB, that's not exactly a resounding rebuttal. "Every player gets hurt here and there"? Hmmm....

But anyway, no need to defend Ribeiro.
I'm glad he has shown a little more physical presence. He got the goal by sticking in there in the high-traffic zone. Good for him. And maybe now he understands what Koivu, among others, risks on a regular basis. Cracking a rib for the team will only win the guy further respect from his teammates. I think Ribs is doing everything possible to stay a Hab. Finally.

Actually Ribiero has gained my respect in the last month. At least somewhat. You know, he reminds me alot of an Alexandre Daigle. Ton of talent offensively but does not want to do what it takes to win. To pay the price. The last few weeks he has been paying the price.

I don't know about funny, but, almost the same coincidence as Lou Gehrig getting Lou Gehrig's disease.

I state once again that Ribeiro gets no praise or sympathy vote from me. He has to earn the respect from the fans and his teamates again. 8 good games doesn't cut it. If he continues to be consistent until the end of the season, then he deserves what he deserves. Strictly for the sake of the Habs and not the player, I hope he does.

Gotta agree with you Limey.  He hasn't earned anything yet because he owes his teamates and the fans for the 45 games this season that he wouldn't go into a corner.

On the positive, at least he is showing up to play now.  As his biggest critic, I will tip my hat to him for his effort as of late.  As you guys say, maybe this will show him what real hockey players are made of.

Cheers! I surely haven't lost faith in the guy but if he lets us down again, he should be dealt this summer without question.

Oh absolutely.  Deal away BG...  My sources tell me (not CJ or barry33 ) the latest offer is 4 Synergy sticks and 8 NHL commemorative pucks complete with bag...

Oh it's funny! You saw the Lou Gehrig's joke on Sopranos?

Key lime, this reminds of the last season. Many posters were upset at him also last season even after he passed Saks in points. Now this season, it may happen again and he still gets no respect. Just don't understand why a third line center(in pay) is expected to produce more than our very rich first line center and Captain????

AB, there are a lot of reasons Ribeiro doesn't always get that much respect. It doesn't have much to do with how many points he has, believe me. Although it helps when he scores more than he's doing these days.

Anyway, your comments about expectations are disingenuous. You yourself have declared his greatness and superiority to Saku, regardless of salary. Now you complain that we expect too much from a "poor" third line centre?

Ribeiro's got a lot of catching up to do. Don't expect a love-in just yet.

Guess, I didn't expect a straight answer on that. You'd be a good politician though. Anyways, it's frutile until we get a number one centerman.

I would like a Ctr man and a big d man for the PP as a quarterback. Lets not forget though how well Huet has played. I hope he can be signed in off season

AB, I didn't list off the reasons because they are so often repeated it gets boring.
But since you are calling me a politician and accusing me of not giving you a straight answer, here they are, one more time:

Ribeiro's most commonly cited sins:
-slow skater
-soft: now showing the first signs that he's willing to fight for the puck. Gets boo-boo as result.
-gets knocked off the puck more than anyone on the team.
-displays a cocky attitude for a young player who has accomplished very little
-plays to the media in a way certain to irritate veterans
-got in an altercation with the captain
-made one of the most widely criticized dives of the last two years
-disappeared during the playoffs last season, after a season full of hype about his superiority to any other forwards
I'm sure there are more...

Bottom line. If you held Ribeiro to a quarter of the accountability you hold Koivu, he'd have been dealt before last season even.

Let me point out that I have supported Ribeiro on many occasions. I like the guy actually, even if he is an oddball. But your RIDICULOUS obsession with attacking Koivu and pointing out how great Ribeiro is in comparison strains me to the limit.
