Reports of the Leafs demise...

...have been greatly exaggerated!

And-o is here to tell you that the Leafs are not dead.  In fact, that most have long ago written them off, they are perhaps as big a threat to the Habs playoffs aspirations as anyone!

And-o tuned into the last half of the Laffs vs. Bruins...and I tell ya, Telqvist looked a whole lot like a Swedish Huet.

...oh yeah, and some guy named Sundin has 5G and 5A (and a boat-load of bone crushing checks) in the 7 games since the Olympic break!  This guy has the potential to place the entire rag-tag franchise on his shoulders and carry them to a MIRACLE playoff birth!!!  YIKES!

Yep..strange how a week can change things. People were on here looking for 7th or even 6th spot, now we have that ugly Leaf in our rearview mirror and it is charging fast. I watched teh whole Leaf game last night and the difference I see in them as opposed to us is that their best players are being their best players. Sundin has cranked it up (he simply dominated last night), McCabe was lethal, and even Domi did his job (fought). The game on Thursday is critical for us. Lets see which habs team shows up.

3 things:

-One: the Bruins really suck right now. The Leafs really outplayed them, but then so did we the other night.

-Two: Tellqvist had some good moments, but he also had some very bad ones (I think that's the part of the game you missed And-o). Note that the Leafs outchanced the Bruins big-time, but the Leafs barely won and had to make a big comeback.

-Three: the NESN announcers are laughable, laughable, laughable. I actually feel very sorry for them, and all fans of the Boston Bruins right now. For the first time ever (I've always hated that team).
The Bruins fans are getting swindled by the cheapskate management. Failing to sign Samsonov and then trading him for virtually nothing. Trading away Thornton for two "pretty good" players. Sorry, but that deal was terrible for Boston. They will not make the playoffs next year either. Bergeron and Thomas are the bright spots, but that's about as far as it goes. Stuart is not an elite player, seems to make big mistakes when the going gets tough. Obviously the management had to do something, but it's not like Thornton was turning into a pumpkin like Theo was....(let alone Samsonov! why ditch him?)...

Leafs have to go 11-7 or 12-6 in their last 18 games to make it into the final 8 this year -> 88-90pts.

Habs have to go 8-9-1 or 9-8-1 in their last 18 games to make it into the final 8 this year -> 88-90pts.

Which do you think is more realistic?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the leafs also have 4,   5 on 3 powerplays also.  but what ever the case the habs had a chance to really bury them last week but didn't.  They have another chance next week playing them on thursday and Saturday, and we better because we haven't won too many against  them this year.

That is what scares me..Johnny laid out the stats that both teams need (wins/losses) to get in..but when you play each other head to head, those are 4 point games. 2 games, 8 potential points.

All this talk of the Leaves, but Atlanta is the biggest threat right now.  The Hab need to concentrate on beating the teams that they should beat - Pittsburgh, Washington etc. because we always seem to lose to these teams.

People let us not forget the Habs are 3 back of Jersey with 1 game in hand and we still play them twice this year. And we are 1 point back of Tampa with 2 games in hand. Who is more likely to fall us or them??

Oh and 7 of the next 8 games for the Leafs are on the road.

Good post Andy. And playing the Leafs twice is an opportunity for revenge . We shouldn't be scared of those jokers. If we lose to them twice we deserve to miss the playoffs.

Good post And-o! Sundin is an elete centermen, not to mention big and strong.

I worry about the back to back with them. Unlike playing in their building where Habs are against 7 players if you count in the two refs, we have a better chance of beating them. If Gainey coaches the game like the other night, we won't beat them. He'll have to play the Begin and Plecs line against the Sundin line to increase our chances.

They'll be ok as long as the refs keep handing them powerplay after powerplay.

and-o toronto are not the power you think they are ,they barely beat a team that we shut out, they were losing til the refs decided t help them out , they had 3 pp in the first(1 5on3) but couldnt score then boston got a pp and scored , then to tied it up boston got another pp and scored , then the refs decided they better not call to for any more pen. til they get back in the game . they were losing bad til they were given every opportunity to get back into it . sundin has been playing well since the break but hardly monsterous , if thier pp goes south or if the refs get a memo from the league to start calling the penalties that toronto deserves they are in deep st*t.they

Easy big guy on the name calling. Your emotions are getting the best of you. When did he ever personally attack you?

Your name calling will only lead to a decent enough thread being shut down by the board monitors. Is that what you want?

Don't want to come down hard on you, because And-o doesn't exactly go out to make a good first impression.

But he's like the anti-hero of this board. You have to take him with a few grains of salt and get some entertainment value from the stirring of the pot. The board would be much less fun without him, trust me.
