I believe that this is possible, and it could be in Gainey's cards. Luongo would be more likely to sign with the team if we looked like we had a chance to make some noise. So if the habs signed a few key free agents this off season and improved the team it would would help.

Luongo could sign with the Habs, leaving Aebischer as trade bait.

 Habs have to sign their own players first then may have room for a couple free agents. Hopefully then Gainey could make a trade for Luongo but I think he'll stay with Huet and Aebischer.
