Well being a habs fan living in Alberta, i cannot see any habs games unless they are on tsn. so heres my letter to the cbc, hopefully next season they will realize canada likes to watch other canadian hockey teams besides the Leafs.
Either way, i'm very dissapointed that tonight I will have to watch the mighty leafs instead of seeing a very special night in Montreal.
anyways onto the letter.
Dear CBC,
I would like an explanation as to why Hockey Night in Canada has become Hockey Night in Toronto. There are three teams on the eastern part of our country and three teams on the west. However, both Ottawa and Montreal are only featured on H.N.I.C when they are playing Toronto. When it comes to the second part of the double header neither western team is featured every week despite the success of all three in the previous years. Calgary made it to the Stanley Cup finals last season, but yet is not on H.N.I.C every weekend. Why does Toronto get this honor? The Leafs have the worst record of any Canadian team and are also the only Canadian team on pace to miss the playoffs. I realize Toronto is Canada's largest city, and competes with Montreal for the largest supported hockey team, but the viewers in Canada who are not Leafs fans also want to see their favorite team play. RDS has now picked up the Canadiens broadcasts, but I hope CBC regains these rights next season.
I don't mean to be overly critical of the CBC because I owe it to your TV network that I even fell in love with this game to begin with. However, it takes a lot out of a fan when he or she cannot sit down on a Saturday night after a long week of work and watch their favorite team battle for a playoff position. Tonight, I will not get to witness one of the greatest and classiest players who ever played the game, get his jersey number retired on the day he died.
I'm sure the Toronto vs. Tampa Bay game will have memories just as special though..
LOVE the point made at the end referring to the Toronto vs Tampa game!!! Great Stuff!!! I consider myself EXTREMELY lucky to have RDS and be able to watch every game. And even luckier that Bell Express Vu messed up and gave me RDS for only $1/ month when it SHOULD be 5...haha.

You shouldn't of said that, I work for the Bell X View division...oopps!
Once again I have to explain this. CBC lost the rights to the HABS. The Montreal Organization sold their rights to RDS , so CBC is not allowed to view their games, I beleive playoffs are an exception. CBC French is allowed to view the Habs game from a RDS feed. So your letter to CBC will not work because they have no choice and it is against the law for them to view it, RDS paid for the programing rights on Saturday night which was sold by The Montreal Canadiens.
Come on people lets stop complaining and realize they can't do anything. Also CBC does have a Ottawa feed that Sens fans can watch their game in English every weekend. So Sens can watch their game on CBC.

From what I understand, RDS owns 100% of the Habs french rights. So even though laws right now say we can't have an english habs network, CBC can still pick them up for more games then they do.

For some reason I don't think that is right. When that deal got signed from RDS , CBC stoped doing pre-games in Montreal. They show the front of the arena now but they always had an on ice pre-game interview before the game, and they would flip to the Habs game when the Leafs game was over. ( I am in the Toronto area so the Leaf game will always be favoured here)
Ever since that RDS deal , they do not show anything. I am pretty sure they can't show it. Plus if it is English or French RDS owns the right, so they can broadcast it in any language. If that was the case , then the Habs would make double T.V revenues by selling French and English rights and I am pretty sure that has been never the case , and would seem illegal to me. It would be like the San Frisco 49ers selling contract in English and Spanish, It doesn't seem right.
Plus if CBC's contract with Leafs is over, Look for TSN to make the push, or the Leafs might think they are popular enough to put all their games on their Leafs T.V.
That is what someone should do is start up a English t.lv station called HABS T.V.

Although I can't explain the end of all the pre-game activities (Maybe they don't want to risk an infraction?), we have talked about the Habs english rights before, check Mario's November 4th blog
