Prior to Theo's departure, the team had two players that others followed. Theo and Saks. Do you all remember when Saks had a catered dinner party at his house this year and 10 players shown up. Some couldn't make it but others went out partying with Theo. So there really were two leaders and 2 groups of apostles.
I love Koivu but is now given the chance to show his true colors. He HAS to show much more leadership and his play must pick up. I think he's had a good season. His points per game average this year is higher than his career average but it's more the effort factor that he can hardly ever lack.
Saks you are now in a position to show Hab fans what you can really do and nothing is in your way at the moment. Go for it...

I don't get it, carte blanche to do what?

I guess we use "carte blanche" a little more loosely here...I just wanted to solidify that he has the opportunity to call meetings and organize outings easier now that Theo's clique has no more ringmaster. He needs to take advantage of the fact that there aren't any more TRUE reasons for him not make this group of guys a closer unit.
I was recently watching the "Power Play" (I think it's called) NHL highlights thing you get on "On Demand" ...anyway, they were showing top goals for each week. I saw a number of goals recently by the likes of Kovalev, Koivu, Ribeiro, etc...guys who are supposedly at odds with everyone and each other. I have to say it was striking that you'd see Kovalev score and then Koivu would be the first one smiling and celebrating with him, same goes with Ribeiro and Kovy, etc....I've heard a lot of people saying these guys dislike each other, and using goal reactions as proof, and it's all possibly true, but the evidence I've seen is quite the opposite. Maybe something's changed? Maybe the bad vibes weren't really that bad in the first place? Whatever the situation, I feel like this team is playing like a team and sticking up for each other right now.

No question that "something's changed". I attribute it to winning. Winning controls everything. Loosing could get you traded or fired and create a divided team. Winning causes pleasure;therefore, players are happy when other players perform well. It's really a powerful thing.
Winning changes everything, just like you said Key. When you lose, there are finger pointings. Whether its out loud or in a person's head. Which creates a divided team. Now that they are winning, and have only 5 more away games this season. Its now that the team continues to grow a stronger bond.

I doubt that, Habgirl; you're more of the pussycat genre.
