Let me preface this by stating once again that And-o DIGS Bob Gainey. In fact, Bob has always been a hero to And-o...always will be!
Having said that...And-o needs to ask Key Lime something right here and now just to set the record straight....
If Bob Gainey had dealt Zednik, Sundstrum, Souray & a draft pick to Vancouver (just as one hypothetical example) for Bertuzzi and Jovo-Cop, would you still be crowing about what a great GM Gainey is???
And-o's point here is simple...And-o respects your posts/opinions/thoughts...but I suspect that Gainey would have drawn praise today from you regardless of whatever he did/didn't do!!!
And-o is glad Gainey addressed one need on defense without negatively impacting the existing roster...and And-o even accepts the acquisition of Abbie in net, since it saves $$$ towards the Cap!
...but And-o is just borderline appalled by the lack of a more substantial deal for the Habs. The needs were obvious!
We still have this big puffy donut roster...with the gaping hole ripped right down the middle!
And-o is tired of waiting! Frustrated by apathy! How much longer does And-o have to wait for a legitimate swing at another run???
There were few, if any, blockbusters today. The closest thing was the Willie Mitchell deal for Shawn Belle and Skoula, maybe the Samsonov deal. No one was moving. The action was geared more towards plugging holes and shoring up depth. None of the basement-dwellers had the much anticipated fire-sale.

Well, I have my work cut out for me with your detailed post.
• The part of Gainey being a great GM is not what I said. I just need to have faith that he tried his best with the limited tools he had. Ando, I need to have faith because after the Savard and Houle era, were desperate for a GM that has hockey sense.
• I totally agree that we need strength down the middle and we desperately need a mobile defenseman. I also think that the AB and Huet Duo can't be long term. Are we banking on Price? Maybe.
• The point is we have to look at is the reality of things. Would one trade made us a legimate team who can make a run at the Cup this year? Not really. Once again, I have to have faith that BG made some cap space to pick up some top talent that will make us "legitimate" contenders by next year.
I was sick a few years back and I was convinced by a friend that the only why I could get better is if I put faith in my doctor cause I questioned everything he put my way. The day I decided to have some faith is the day I got better.
We don't have a choice but to have faith in BG cause he's the one calling all the shots.
I can't say that I am surprised by the lack of movement today, especially after the Theodore trade which I actually like on paper. Theo's days were over and Abeischer is a solid GT. We have a good 1-2 punch with him and Huet. As for Todd Simpson, well time will tell if he can get it together in Mtl. He's not old (32 or 33) and we can use some size on the blueline. I suspect that that there will be some signings in the summer with the cap room the team now has. But I also suspect that BG is happy with the youth on the roster and didnt want to give up on any of them. Remember that Zednik is a monster in the playoffs, and now Ribeiro has none of his compadres to distract him.
