This guy is tough as nails but brings absolutely nothing to the table as far as speed or puck movement.

4 Goals in 45 games and 116 PM's. FOr a 6th round pick what the hell.

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman Todd Simpson from the Chicago Blackhawks for a sixth round draft pick in 2006.

Simpson, signed by the Blackhawks as an unrestricted free agent last August, has just three assists in 45 games this season but has amassed 116 penalty minutes.

Simpson, who has been a healthy scratch 14 times this season, is considered an effective defensive defenceman but has a tendancy to take bad penalties.

Bob McKenzie on the Todd Simpson trade - There are conspiracy theories that Montreal is stock-piling guys like Simpson and Aebischer in order to trade them all to a team like Vancouver for a player like Todd Bertuzzi.  While we can't rule something like that out, if you look at this deal at face value, the Canadiens needed to get bigger, stronger and more physical.  This deal could be just as it seems.  Simpson is a depth defenceman with a bit of bite who will drop the gloves and help the Montreal Canadiens out.

Pierre McGuire on the Todd Simpson trade - Chicago is going to be very active today.  They've moved Simpson and now they are looking to move guys like Tyler Arnason and Jimmy Dowd.  One guy they will not move is Kyle Calder.

Actually..in my gut..this tells me that Shelly (Souray) is on his way out of Montreal today. I hope not, but that is the feeling I get. The Simpson deal is a set up trade.

I don't see how BG can't have alterior motives now. Why would he pickup a player who's been a healthy scratch on a bad team!!!!

It seems all the pundits and know-it-alls think there is something in the air. What is BG going to do? No way that there would have been a 4 way deal with CHI-COL-VAN-MTL so maybe, this might be the Bertuzzi thing. But, who knows. Maybe not. We got a decent set up as it is. True, though, I'd like to see some of the fluff leaving Montreal today.

Souray is not part of the "fluff" that barry33 would like to see leave

Simpson is the guy that Richard Zednik punched the heck out of a couple of years back.

Good move by Gainey...remember what happened to Ric Zednik a few years ago in the playoffs...Zed was on fire and dominating the series (he really was!) when Kyle MacLaren introduced his elbow to Zed's face.

It was so pathetic that until this day, nobody has done anything back to MacLaren for that.  In fact, after that hit, the Habs called up Matt O'Dette (I bet not many of you have even heard of him before) but he dressed for a pre-game warm up but never played.

Anyway, Simpson is well respected around the league and will fight ANYONE.  Instead of calling Manulife for an insurance policy for the players, BG called Chicago and got one.

Or Ashlee Simpson, so we'd a least get a D who looks like they're playing...

And don't forget Homer...
