He makes less than Koviu, and is way more of a game breaker. Best thing Gainey did is sign Kovalev, and maybe (sorry Barry) firing Julien.
i m a big fan of gainey but i have to start questioning him on his moves he has made for the habs 1-signing kovalev (i was never a fan of him) 2-trading garon (looks like this backfired) 3-signing dandenault 4-not resigning perreault 5-drafting price 6-trading theo for aebischer i just hope gainey makes me eat my words
The proof will be in the pudding today. If Gainey has another blockbuster deal up his sleeve before 4 pm today (thus moving Theo to free up Cap space for this player), then it is a good deal. Otherwise he would have been much better off keeping him and hoping he comes back and plays well and gains value. What bugs me is that a few short months ago Gainey felt that Theodore was the next coming and gives him a huge contract. True, Gainey could not foresee Theo's collapse. But is Bob THAT much a bad judge of talent? Really, Theo had one solid season. A pasrt of me sees the business side of this decision (ie cap space). But my habs heart sees this as just another case of Montreal investing tons of time and money developing talent and then just giving them away.

I'm surprised that people are still saying that trading Garon was a mistake. Yes, he is the number one goalie in LA, but the Kings have been pushing hard for Luongo. It took half the season to realize it, but Huet certainly is a number one caliber goaltender that is as good as or better than Garon. Sure Bonk has been somewhat of a bust, but his defensive play has picked up considerably of late, and I don't see him as a liability when he's on the ice.

give me a break 4.5 million for 45 points
Don't forget that Gainey traded Josef Balej for Kovalev. That was huge. Kovalev is an amazing talent who has been turning it up lately. In any case, you can't judge Kovy by his play in NYC. At that time, the Rangers were swallowing up superstars and still sucking. They were far from a 'team'.
