I would like to remind everyone of what i said last month, how montreal would not get much for their goltender, I meant Theo, and I was right. This trade has been a long time coming and was in talks when I made the post.
I have stopped posting the trade rumors cause most of um weren't happening at the time, and I was also called out twice
Anyways, I hope this atleast re-establishes my creditablity to those who did not believe me
I feel Gainey did really well considering what he had to trade. Huet will require a solid back-up goal tender and In abischer that is what we have... he is a proven NHLer. I see some of the GMs on this board have again attacked Gainey's decision... it is really strange, when Gainey took over as coach their post were all derogatory because he did not turn the team around in the first period of the first game and put them on an undefeated streak. Lately, the way the Habs are playing it seemed really quiet here with the Gainey bashing, now the flood gates are opened again.
I just wonder how many phone calls they had for advice from the Habs front office?
However I would like to state that, when i posted up the tidbit about not getting alot. We were in talks with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Coyotes, and Edmonton Oilers.
Jay, I agree Theo had to go, but why to Colorado of all teams? And why for a goalie who would fit best in Hamilton? My god I think we could have at least got a number 5 or 6 defenseman for him. I agree he had to go, and the price would be low, but I never imagined it would be this low. I mean come on, Abisheir? Why not trade him for the rights to Allen Bester? It makes about that much sense. Some one should have told Gainey, no more goalies to the Avs, have we learned nothing for Patrick?

Jay, I posted I would be shocked if Gainey traded Theo. I'm glad he did just didn't think any team would bite.
The Abish isn't bad, I believe he can be better with more coaching. But as of right now, he can do just fine as a backup goalie or a roatational goalie.
I'm just amazed we were able to dump Theo and his salary. That was a brilliant move in itself. Aebischer isn't great, but he isn't that bad either - a starter on a very good Colorado team. Our goalie tandem is probably one of the best in the league now, behind Calgary and Ottawa.

I wouldn't get to attached to Aby just yet, maybe Gainey made this trade, yes for salary room, but also to send him along with say, Souray to Vancouver for Bert. I think that Theo wasn't an option for Vancouver cause they need a goalie now.....Aby is ready to play....just a thought, ya never know on trade deadline eh..
The Abyss (Aebisher's new name cause I don't want to spell out his name everytime) will do very well after getting good coaching from the habs goalie coach. I agree with Zulrath, we have a god G. coach and he will help The Abyss improve his game.
