The PK!

Gainey and Carbo have made MAJOR improvements to the PK!  The unit seems to be far more aggressive blocking shots and getting right out to cover the points and challenge the puck carrier.  They act like they actually want the puck...versus merely waiting for the goaltender to bail them out!!!

Begin and Bonk were absolute horses last night up-front on the PK!!!

...and major kudos to Komisarek - anyone else think that he is easily the most improved Hab by far????

Rivet was also really strong again!!!

i agree with many of your posts ando but probably none more than this one. Begin last night impressed me even more than i thought possible. With no stick this guy still managed to pressure the lightning power play and force them to cough up the puck...Fantastic.

Bonk, last night, seemed to be in all the right places to make the defensive play we needed.

And as for Komi..WOW what a surprise! yet another awesome game by him. If only he had a little more bite to him "a la Rivet..." he'd be even better.

That's good to hear, Ando-o.

One question: by Komisarek being "most improved", my question is "since when"?  If you mean over last year, I disagree; he is generally not having as good a year, IMHO.  If you mean "of late", then perhaps yes.

I agree, the PK is one of the biggest differences. I remember watching games in Dec-Jan and being amazed at how passive the PK was. Maybe the worst I've EVER seen. I have no idea why.

ON the PK it is all about EFFORT. You can have the best system in the world in place but unless the guys are willing to pay the price to get the job done it is useless. Killing penalties is thankless work for the most part that requires second effort, blocking shots etc. What I have seen is not a different system but the commitment and work ethic to get it done. And that is encouraging.

Nilsy...definitely 'of late'.  Plus, the kid ain't too far off of his best hockey as a pro IMO.

And-o digs the way that Gainey/Carbo have all the defensemen safely reversing the puck flow back around their goal instead of forcing it up into pressure all of the time, which becomes sooooo predictable after a few games!  I think this approach promotes much more physical work in the corners...instead of making it merely a race for the puck!

And-o ragged on Komi lots earlier this season...because he truly was useless...but the guy seems to have his head straight now...and who wouldn't have stunk facing all he has this season at such a young age!!!

I haven't seen a game in a month, so it's hard for me to comment on Komi.  I was disappointed in his play this year, so I hope he truly has turned it around.  The funk may well have been related to the loss of his mother.

Nil'd...And-o guarantees you that it had everything to do with the loss of his Ma!

Cripes, the kid flew home between games for about 4-6 weeks.  What does this tell you about his upbringing and his roots???

...as far as And-o is concerned, any guy who is that family oriented has the guts, passion and heart required to be a level headed success!

In fact...Komisarek deserves a "Mulligan" and a "free pass" for this season's slow start.

Kudos to Komi!

I have to agree with Komi's great play as of late... he has been excellent clearing the front of the net for huet.  i was sick of seeing our goalie run into all the time.

I'd love for the guy to score, actually I'm praying that he does.... but is it just me or does he seem to take a lot of wrist shots... nothing against the wrister but I have no idea what kind of shot this kid has, since he never seems to shoot. I guess its a matter of confidence, as it keeps building he'll shoot more.

In the meantime, GO KOMI

Well, he has no goals but ONE assist, so he's obviously a set-up man.............

(And this is my Post #1812.  Another good year - the year Canada whupped the US in a war.  Apologies to davidb, Brooky, Habjo and Johnny USA.    Let's not try it again, however.................)
