He's an unrestricted free agent at season's end, but is this end of his NHL career. Daigle has the talent but no heart. It'stoo bad...the greatest sin is waisted talent!!! I thought he was performing in Minnesota but to my surprise, 5 goals just won't cut it. Incredible! He's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. I won't even try to understand this headcase. He had Gold in his hand and through it all away.

I just checked his stats. The guy actually has put up better numbers over the years than what I remembered. But with all the trades, underachieving, and that Hollywood stint, I can only conclude he is too much of a head case for the Habs.
(Although he would add to the all-Acadian team.................)

I say grab him and make him feel at home, you'd be amazed what a bargain this guy could br if it worked out. When he's firing on the whole 8, he's a unique talent...

Well, I'm all for taking calculated risks, but I fear this one would be too much of a low-return investment............

to say that his offensive potential on the wild was stunted by the system would be a huge understatement. i think he would be fantastic with a player like kovalev and perezhogin. the guy still has wheels, hands and vision. the only problem is his play away from the puck, but that has improved immensely from his previous days.
i say if it ain't broke don't fix it ......as of right now the habs are on a role ,why would they want to take this guy when everybody else got rid of him....there is better out there

I agree, Newbie Doodie!
Your writing style looks like MacNeil's (the poster formerly known as red dog), and I see you're a MacNeil too! Are you a Caper?

Totally agree. Daigle is a high-maintenance player with low confidence. He doesn't do much when he's not flying, and totally lacks vision. If you think Zednik is a tunnel-vision player, watch the way Daigle plays.

His name would be Kovalev. Now if you could throw in the heart of a, say, Begin... "Perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub."

I once faced-off against Daigle. He won the draw to himself, crossed the blue line and went top shelf on our goalie -- all within 7 seconds. Of course, that was in 1988 when he played for the Laval Riverains youth team. But if we could just get some of that magic......

I would take him for the stretch run..if it works out you re-sign him..if not you are not out much. As far as him being a head case,. he would be right at home in the Habs dressingroom

Exactly, that's what I was thinking when I stared this topic. Why not take him as a rental and worry if you have to sign him in the off season? breaking the chemistry is the only down side but I think it would have a reverse affect. The players on the Habs would love to have a talented player and the fans would back him up...for at least 5 - 6 games at least

Not arguing with you, but where does he slot in and who has to sit. Any concerns that one of the younger players goes to Hamilton to open a roster spot for him?

This is how I might do it...and this just a shot in the dark.
Higgins - Saks - Daigle
Kovy - Ribeiro - Perez
Ryder - Pleks - Bulis
Begin - Bonk - Zednik
I would shift Daigle and Perez from the top 2 lines, to see the better fit.
Shocking at first glance but they lines seem proportioned...our 4th line looks pretty good now.

Makes for some interesting lines. How the mighty have fallen, you've got Ryder on the third line, and I don't think there are too many her that would disagree. One other thing I noticed, but isn't new, what a small group of guys they have up front.
And I agree that Downey needs to sit. He throws one or two checks a game, but otherwise is invisible. When he is on a line with the likes of a firecracker like Begin, just being big doesn't cover it.

Great one, heet! You're hot this morning!
And quoting the Bard, no less...............

If we're that desperate, why not just promote Kostitsyn now and be done with it. He can already do anything Daigle can.
As for Downey, he doesn't have to hit anyone to have a presence. It's more a matter of giving his teammates confidence there's someone there to smash mouths when necessary...

But there has been ample opportunity, and its been Rivet or Souray or Begin standing up for their teammates. If he isn't going to do the job, get someone else in there, if not to mix it up, then someone with talent.

Daigle may perform with the Habs. It won't cost the Habs hardly anything. I love Kostitsyn and I have faith that he will become a solid player but Daigle has showed some signs that he can do it at the NHL level and he can do it right now.
I wrote this post to get influenced by all your answers because I'm relatively neutral on the Habs getting Daigle. Being neutral is a rarity for me...
Daigle will not be signed by Montreal or anyone, IMO. He sounds like more of waste than most thought of Ribs. Maybe they can play on a line together and really show us what can't be done.
Daigle? Are you serious? Another undersized underachiever - just what we need. There's a reason this guy is a suitcase and one of the biggest busts ever. Teams don't put GOOD players on waivers.

Begin?

Begin is a role guy though and has found a niche with the Habs. I wouldn't go out of my way to call him "good", although I do think he is useful and I like him as a Hab. When he was in Calgary he was terrible.
Daigle is supposed to be a scorer - he reminds me a lot of Ribs. Scared and small with a good set of hands.

Great example!
Wasn't the Cube lost and reclaimed on waivers a couple of years ago?

LOL...hold on, when did 6 feet 205 pound forwards start getting called small? He's not physically small but he is "soft". I wouldn't go as far as saying he's as soft as Ribs though. Now that's one big marshmellow.
