How I measure our D

Remember the first part of the season when Boullion was probably our second or third best D? Now we don't notice him as much. Not because he's playing worse but because our other guys are now playing better as they should. We now look like we have at least an average D in this league!

Funny but we're seeing just a little less of Markov too. Good observation.

Good point. We really should have a decent D when you think about it. Souray is probably the most improved of the bunch, and that is GOOD timing.

Still, did you see his horrendous miss (es)? Sometimes he needs to remember that clocking the guy is nice but less important than making sure the play is covered. He still runs around looking for hits.

It is not a bad thing to go looking for hits (as long as you are not taking yourself out of the play most of the time) cause the other team must know the have to pay the price for going to the net etc. so Komi-Souray-Rivet must keep up the physical aspect such as when Rivet went after the Tampa player last night although I do not know what caused it - I only saw The TSN highlights........

True....but you still have to play your position. And if you're going to leave your position to make a hit you'd better not miss. (cf. Brisebois)

I can't remember Brisebois ever making a hit let alone attempting one.

Brisebois was actually capable of big hits, especially in open ice. Partly because he had great leg strength.

But usually what you'd see is Brisebois panicking, forgetting to play the man, or, when he wasn't sure where to be, you'd see him wandering around looking for someone to hit. It would always be at just the wrong time.

Speaking of our defense, would we all agree that Andrei Markov is not only our best, but our most dependable.  He shows up, game-in, game-out.

I'm trying to think who was our last defenseman that we could say was entirely, consistently, dependable.  I don't mean spectacular, I just mean when he was on the ice, you knew there would be no screw-ups.

I'm sort of at a loss on this one..................    Eric Weinrich, maybe?  Quintal?  Desjardins?  It's a tough call.............
