 The Sharks also have 64 points but are about 7 points back of 8th place in their western conference. We are in a much weaker division!

I agree, there's much more parity in the western conference. The eastern teams seemed to have had a much tougher time to adjust to the new NHL. I think the new rules were an easier adjustment for the west in many ways and it shows...then again we NEVER get to see the western conference teams play anymore... but I won't get into that.
