TORONTO STAR: Ken Campbell and Mark Zwolinski reports stalled contract talks between the Maple Leafs and defenceman Bryan McCabe could result in the club shopping him by the trade deadline. McCabe currently earns over $3.4 million but it's believed he's seeking over $5 million per season and he and his agent could decide to test the UFA market this summer.
From what I've heard on the Fan 590 (Toronto), everyone is available. You hear the same arguments as anywhere else. Like for trade Sundin, Tucker or Belfour, now while they are worth something. The thoughts on McCabe are that he was sensational on the power play, with one timers, but now, as Belfour looks like a 40 year old, his defensive liabilities are showing up.

I walked past a restaurant yesterday that had a sign in the window that said, "Lobster Tail and Beer." I went in, since I enjoy all three.

I think that in the right situation I would favour acquring McCabe and team him up with Markov, our best +/- defenseman. On the other hand, if you were Toronto, would you trade your best defenseman to a team in your division during the playoff hunt?
At 5 million? Never! Is that really what he's asking for? I wouldn't go over 2.5 for him. now that I know what he's asking for, I would just forget I even knew about his eligibility.
