souray trade rumours

The latest trade rumour out of Vancouver, is that the Canucks have their eye on Sheldon Souray. They have three of their regular defencemen out with injuries: Ohlund,Salo and Jovanovski (and Jovo could be done for the year with his groin injury) and apparently the Canucks have been scouting Souray. Additionally Jovanovski becomes a free agent in the off season, so they need a quality blueliner to fill the void. The question is, would Gainey be interested in trading Souray in the first place? The Habs defence is already pretty thin, after Markov,Rivet and Souray and to some extent Boullion there is not much to count on at this time. Trading Souray would leave a big hole, but with so many teams looking for help on the blueline Souray's value could increase come the trade deadline.

As long as we don't get Bertuzzi (damaged goods) in return. Yes, it would leave a hole by trading Souray but BG still needs to find that mobile defenseman

Then who do the Canucks have that you would want, that they would be willing to give up?  Are they that desperate for a defenseman now?

You are wright about a mobile defenseman, but I think everybody is looking for one, and that will make it tough for BG as he doesn't have a whole lot to offer.  I think most of us don't want to see him trade away their future.

I don't want anyone really, from Vancouver. I have a strong opinion that the Habs CAN NOT trade their future but is Souray really their future? I'm sure that even if he has improved, we are still uncertain about him. Most of us are on a wait and see type of deal with him.

The thing is Heet, that most of us want a trade or trades to happen. If this is the case, we have to give up soemthing to get something and hope that we have the better end of the deal.

Actually Key, I wasn't referring so much to Souray as their future, I meant more along the lines of I don't want them to trade prospects or draft picks.

No kidding, we would all like to see a trade, but what do the Habs have to offer in return?
