My wishlist is probably same as most others here - more of a get rid of players than bring in players. I'd think that Zednik, Bulis and Ribs are the most likely to be moved and most of us want to lose them anyway. I'd like to keep Bulis because, despite the Olympics, he is solid and has played well this year. But that's what might make him so valuable. I like Zed but he's way out of his groove. Ribs seems to have had an attitude adjustment which might make other teams think again about taking him (say for Ric Jackman!!) I think we need a compliment to Koivu at centre, a compliment to Markov and a nice surpise, someone who makes Kovalev care all the time.

Seems to me almost all of us would like to see Bulis stay with the Habs. He's one of the few we all seem to agree on.

If you'd asked me last year, Nil, I'd have disagreed. But Bulis has really grown on me this year.
I would like Olli Jokinen, but I know it's not realistic. I was amazed to watch Ville Peltonen play at the Olympics. He's currently with Lugano, 2nd in the Swiss table. He might be an option if Lugano lets him go (could suit well to Saku). This year I was most disappointed of Zed and Ribs, but who the hell wants those guys???

I'd love this trade, but I don't see Chicago going for it.
I am not sure if we will trade Zednik since he tends to perform well in the play-offs and he might be a nice fit beside Plekanec and Bulis who I would be very upset if we traded. I see us maybe bringing in a D and a center, but other Sundstrom and Ribiero, who don't have much value, we don't have much to trade unless we deal our picks and prospects and that always worries me. I don't see us getting a goalie.
i could see the ribs going to the capitals, they need a center maybe for someone like witt
Skov1044..hello man! Ya I think you might have it right. Plek I think is over taking Ribby as our second line center..so lets get some depth on "D". Good call I think.
Yeah, I really like Bell also, but his value is high and I have heard is not available unless it is a killer offer. Arnason is the one they want to deal and I am not that interested in him. I would want either a right-shooting, mobile D or a right-shooting, big, scoring Center. Welcome Skov!
I think given that they do have a chance for 8th place, BG will make 1-3 trades by the deadline. Players on the block will be Zednik, Sundstrom, Bonk, Ribs, Streit, Dandenault, and maybe Bulis. Look for another Jim Down type player to come in unless he can get one of Chicago's 3 (Bell, Arnason, Calder) to come over.
Souray for Bertuzzi is not that far off. Souray's daughter now lives on the West Coast with her mother so he may want to go out west. Bertuzzi has to get out of Vancouver. This deal could happen.
I also think Streit's days as a Canadien are over. He brought nothing to the team and it was a shame to lose Hainsey in order to keep him. Cote looked good when he played those few games.
Both Gainey and Carbo know what this team needs and will go out and get it. They will not get another European player though at the deadline, thats for sure.
my dream deadline would be. Jokinen, Mark Bell, Ric Jackman, and maybe a good stay at home Dman. But i don't think we have enough to give up to get all of them.
zednik, ribs, bulis, and picks/prospects gone for them.
Welcome Outsider! I have also heard Souray to Vancouver, but does it make sense to trade a D when we need another D? I think we are also more than stocked on wingers and take enough stupid penalties that we don't Bert to help. I agree that Vancouver needs a D, has been scouting us a lot and that Souray would be a great fit there. Apparently Chicago has been scouting us for over a month and vice versa... I doubt that Montreal will not make a trade before the deadline.
Mark Recchi, one of my alltime favs, he's still got it he would be our second leading scorer this season plus he used to have great chemistry with Saku i heard they still keep in touch. I would take a risk on him to see if the chemistry is still there for a midround pick or something like that.

I'm not so sure I agree with you on Recchi. Would he be putting up the same numbers if he played for the Habs rather than an offensively-minded team like Pittsburgh?
(Not that they actually produce offense, mind you, but they have players who used to! And by the way, Recchi's 53 points so far would put him #1 on the Habs; still, at 38 his best days are behind him. I'd take him in a minute, but would not trade away young talent for him.)
By the way, I just noticed that this my Post #1776 - a very good year for the Acadians. Some of my ancestors - who had been expelled in 1755 and were still living in Massachusetts in 1776 - fought with the Americans in the War of Independence. Who better to fight the Brits than a pissed-off Acadian?!

OK. I see another Kovalev type move by Gainey...grabbing Selanne. Not sure how but one of the "prospects" might go( Perez, Kostisyn?). I don't know.
And trading for a "depth" defenseman. As indicated above...Ribby might go in that transaction. Plek moving into second line center duties. Bonk our third line center and Sundstom returns to bolster the 'fourth' line.

Thus: Higgins-koivu-Selanne Kovalev-Plek-Ryder Bulis-Bonk-Zednik Begin-Sundstrom-Downey
While keeping a firm grip on reality, and fully understanding that this is all speculation, wouldn't it be better to throw Sundstrom on the 3rd line and leave Bonk on the checking line? The biggest comment on Sundstrom this year is his invisibility. Not really any good, but not bad either. Put him on the 3rd, he HAD vision once before, and maybe he can find Bulis for a long pass or maybe get Zednik crashing the net. Also, Bonk doesn't exactly have the wheels to center that line, does he?

I agree with you about not giving up young talent for Recchi my suggestion was a mid round pick and a expendable player maybe Sundstrom. Your right that Recchi may not have the same numbers in Montreal as he does in Pittsburgh, but he would still be good.
If the habs were to go that route, i'd rather see LeClair then Recchi. LeClair has more size, has more scoring talent and i think would fit in nicely to the club at this time.
This is my first post, as I am new to this website. I am so happy to find this website as someone who bleeds blue blanc rouge.
Just a comment on the trades, it is very difficult to speculate with Bob Gainey at the helm. The guy has the best poker face in the business, so potential trading partners is difficult to predict, let alone potential players. I will say this, Mark Bell from Chicago is exactly what we need, a big LW who can score. If Bob is looking at Chicago, I hope he holds out for Bell. Aside from that, I think we can pretty much agree that Ribiero and Zednik need to go, and Bulis, although we also all agree has been a pleasant surprise, may also be used as good trade bait, but expect nothing spectacular in return.
As far as defensemen go, the D-men have been the most consistent performers this year, and I am very happy with their play as a unit. That doesn't mean that another D won't help, but I just hope Bob is careful when dealing for or away a D.
