Fact is Saks had a solid Olympics. He had 11 points in 7 games. That's of course way more than his average NHL stats. 1.57 points per game is double that of the NHL. It would be unfair to expect him to continue this pace playing with Ryder and Higgins but hopefully he still has some solid play in his gas tank.
Speaking of gas tank, should Gainey rest these players for Tuesday's game or hope that they can pick up where they left off? Like Rivet said, they played alot of hockey and the travel inclusive equals tired players. We can't afford these guys playing too tired and being prone to injury down the stretch. Obviously Rivet is right, the others have to step it up while the Olympic gang is tired but should that be done with them in the first couple games or without them?
One positive is that our gang is coming back un-injured.
It sounds like there has been some key injuries to other teams.
How nice of you to start a new thread on Saku Koivu, of all players! We haven't read much about him lately.................
I do admit, he played solid with Selanne and there was good chemistry. The whole Finish team played well defensively and only missed gold by one goal! His teamates deserve to hold their heads up high.
I'm not starting this thread to make trouble but to ask your opinions on if Gainey should rest the more important players like Markov, Kovy and Saks the first couple games? Would that pay off more so in the long run or just throw them in there Tuesday?

They might be tired but then again, maybe they can carry over the Olympic "high" into the final regular season games. We don't have many left....the rest of the players have to step up also. It's going to have to be a huge team effort.
Like Nil, I am kind of concerned about Bulis..he's usually a fireplug but seems to be struggling. On a positive note, thank goodness we at least have a decent backup with Huet.
The schedule for the rest of the way is going to be just as condensed as the beginning of the season isn't it? With all these games in so many days already, I expect some of these players to be tired out.

Meh... I never take olympic stats very seriously. Fact is, the NHL's worst teams still don't allow you to pad your stats quite like the cans of international hockey.

Koivu is asking for the night off. I have been consistent in my views regarding players attending the Olympics and I think he should play. Every game for us is critical at this stage. Yes they should play. Too bad, so sad. The homeland is not paying your salary, Gillette is.

Actually the owners are the ones who agreed to send NHL'er to the Olympics... They do it to make more $ so it's ok for Sak and any other players who made it that far to take a night off. Good thing the Habs don't have that many good players who could make it that far.

Consistency is nice, but correctness is better.
Do you really think it's a bad idea for Koivu to sit out this game? I'm relieved, frankly.
