Jose Theodore's bad season just got worse. Theodore suffered a broken right heel in a fall outside his home on Thursday night and will miss six to eight weeks of hockey.
Theodore slipped while walking down the stairs outside his home. Freezing rain had made conditions in Montreal treacherous that day.
Montreal Canadiens Chief Surgeon Dr. David Mulder and Orthopedic Consultant Dr. Eric Lenczner confirmed the initial diagnosis following comprehensive exams on Friday.
"Jose was a victim of an unfortunate accident and we all feel for him," said Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey. "He will get on with his rehabilitation as soon as the condition of his heel allows him to do so. We hope to have him back in time to help the team down the final stretch."
"It was bad luck and even though I am very disappointed of the outcome, I can only wish that my rehab period will be as quick and short as possible," said Theodore. "I intend to come back strong and contribute to the team’s success through the last part of the regular season and in the playoffs."
Theodore is 17-15-5 this season, with a 3.46 goals against average and an .881 save percentage. His disappointming play has resulted in recent benchings, with Cristobal Huet shining as his replacement in Montreal's last six games.
Theodore was on Canada's preliminary 81-man Olympic eligibility list but not named to the final squad. He's now appealing a positive test for a banned substance, conducted Dec. 12 as part of random pre-Olympic screening.
The substance he tested positive for can be used as a masking agent for the steroid nandrolone, which produces muscle bulk, though team doctor David Mulder said the drug - propecia - was being used to promote hair growth.
We're clearly not trading him now! As a skater, a fractured heel will probably take all 8 wks. before Theo is comfortable in skates. This of course takes him beyond the trade deadline! This and his wage is as good as a no trade clause!
On the positive side though, this may be a good thing. Let our number one goalie this season, Huet continue his thing rather than the disruption of experimenting with Theo to try to get him going! I think our goaltending is solid enough with Danis backing up that we don't have to be rash!
Gainey still needs to concentrate his efforts in filling other holes with different trade bait such as Ribs if at all possible!
Can things possibly get worse for this tragic figure? Didn't someone mention girllfriend problems in an earlier post (Jay?)? Or was that simply sarcasm?
Yes, i did touch on that. ANd it wasn't sarcasm, he's going through a really rough patch in life right now, despite having millions of dollars. Like the cliche goes, Money doesn't buy happiness.

Yes, I know that, but if you noticed at that time, mine was farther down the page, meaning it was the same minute, but it was a matter of seconds, and mine came first. lol.

In Theo's case, it seems to have bought unhappiness.................
