Remembering "Ric" (Stash) Nattress-A Hab Fans Moment.

Before the glory game came the igominy.

In the summer of 1983, Nattress was found to have 3 grams of marijuana and 1 gram of hashish in his car. He was fine $150.00 after being convicted of possession, and NHL president suspended the second-year player for a year, the same sentence given to Don Murdoch in 78'-79'. Like Murdoch, Nattress had his suspension reduced, in his case to 30 games, and he tried to get his game back on track with our Montreal Canadiens.

He wound up goin' to St.Louis and then to Calgary, and it was with the Flames he had his finest years teamed with Jamie Macoun as the premiere defensive pairing in the league.

He helped the Flames win the Mug  in 1989, and later played briefly with the Leafs and the Flyers before calling it a day in 1993.

He became an assistant with Hamilton of the AHL for two years and then with the London Knights. He also used to play with the Legends group of Old-Timers that tour the country.

Cheers to Ric Nattress!

Nattress does colour for Hamilton Bulldog games on the local cable outlet in the Hamilton-Burlington-Oakville area about 10 a year maybe - The latest one I saw was Hamilton vs Portland this sunday past (12th) I believe it was a repeat of the friday game anyways he made a comment for a penalty coming up to The Dogs but he and his play by play partner both got the wrong player so he quiped I'm getting as bad as those guys who do the Toronto Marlie games for getting the players right.

By the way The Bulldogs vs The Marlies is on Rogers Sportsnet tonight - I do not think it is coast to coast though just Ontario & Rogers East?........:biggrin

Stash had wheels!

I like him as a Hab. He's been through some rough patches, but hey, so have so many others.

Never understood what recreational drug use, illegal or legal, had to do with sports. I mean, if a player was caught shoplifting, would you then suspend him?

ESPECIALLY for a few grams of weed and hash?  If this happened nowadays, he would get a slap on the wrist.  Look at the NBA and NFL players who get caught with kilo's of the stuff and handguns?

Ric was a party guy. He liked to have a blast when he could. He got burned, but what IS cool is that he turned it all around.
