 Guys, maybe the bigger question should be, what happened to the pro Bettman gang during the lockout? Players are spoiled/ contracts are out of control/ GM shouldn't bow down to players and inflate their worth/etc.


 This Saks signing will only impower the free-agents to compare to Saks production this off season! It's still a free market in my opinion for the lucky ones waiting on another contract!


 It's because of this signing that the lower forth line players like Begin will never get their true worth because it is sure to become two tiered! My feeling is no team wins without these kind of players! They leave their blood, sweat and tears on the ice and maybe never a pay raise because players like Kovy, Theo and Saks are taking home 40% of the goods!


 Now, I don't want to hear that you think Begin is replacable and he's a dime a dozen! Because you all thought he was important to the team before the signing!


 It's just sad to me that after a long lockout that players like Begin will never be rewarded! On the flip side, a Cap had to be implemented but the importance is how a GM manages within that Cap! 


 I wish GMs would take note that they have another 19 players on their roster that are also important to win a Cup and plan to pay them accordingly rather than feed them the remaining scraps!

You got it Ab.  There was a lot of talk after the CBA was signed that the star players were still going to get their money and the grinders would take the hit.  I always thought it was ridiculous to pay 2 mil for a grinder, but that is how it was and now it has gone the other way.  The question remains though; do people pay to see the Koivu's play, or the Begin's.  Look at the posters and you will see why they make the big bucks.

 Good guestion but I can say the educated hockey fan would appreciate Begin just as well as Saks! When I pay to see the Habs play, I want to see all the players do their thing rather than just 40% of them! I realize that a penalty kill is just as important as say watching Kovy score!


 Remember how loud the fans were watching Begin kill that penalty the other night! They loved it just as they love a good tussle or a fancy goal! The Hab fans know hockey!
