The Canadiens are in the market for a big No.2 center, reports the Montreal Gazette, which could lead to the departure of Mike Ribeiro.
With Saku Koivu locked up for three more seasons (read signing), the Habs have Radek Bonk and rookie Tomas Plekanec capable of playing up the middle, leaving Ribeiro available for trade.
Ribeiro has been enjoying some success playing on a like with Alexei Kovalev and Alexander Perezhogin, however the Gazette suggests that's merely a ploy to showcase him to other trade.
It has been speculated that the Canadiens are eyeing the likes of Florida's Olli Jokinen, Tampa Bay's Brad Richards and Chicago's Mark Bell.
Jokinen is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, while Richards and Bell will be restricted.
According to various reports, the Canadiens have been talking to the Blackhawks for several weeks and could be seeking more than Bell.
If BG could pick up a solid #1a/b or #2 center I think alot of us would be happy. I think the likes of Richards is out of the question. Unless we are willing to sell the farm....

Hey AB...I think BG might first need to max out the cap just in order to make the playoffs!
Brad Richards should not entertain offers for anything less than 7 million now...and And-o could see someone paying more in a pinch!!! Cripes...Bob might think that's a steal!!!

True enough, It was a gamble already signing the big numbers and we may not even see playoffs!
Anyways, Chicago and Edmonton are 2 very good trading partners to have right now. Edmonton has expressed interest in a few bodies that wear the habs uniform. And I believe it was my second post here where I made the thread about good trades that are capable of happening. Which including Chicago.
