Interesting Gainey signs Saks to huge dough but can't count on him in a shoot out! Obviously not paying him for his sniping ability!

Koivu -1 and another bad penalty with it! Guess the new contract signing didn't take the pressure off and turn his play around! Hardly even noticable last night except a two on one when he shot it into the goalies chest!

Positive notes though, Zed was great! Kept the wheels going all night and good defensive positioning without taking bad penalties! Great pass to Bulis!

 Huet was great again!

I question Ryder in the shoot out! How many of you last night were confident that he would score? All goalies must know that the book on him is he shoots high and doesn't deke! He's great in the slot with his quick release but not on a breakaway!

The Kovy line didn't score but took the play to them and hemed them in their own zone for many shifts! Great puck control and pressure!

Good solid game with more and more players getting on board! My concern though is Gainey needs to be spending money on a pure goal scorer! That's one key element we've been missing for a long time! Let's hope he can still fill holes by trading deadline to give us a chance to win in the next few years!

Did you notice when he took his shot Lehtonen(SP) was leaning right where the shot went he had the whole other side of the net.

Have any of you seen the results with other teams in the shoot out? High talent players don't score like we think they would. It's really like a blind bet. I absolutely love overtime - 4 on 4 hockey but I'm not sold on the shootout yet.

...Plekanec should get a crack at it the next time.

Superhab, I did notice that! A very easy save when the goalie knows where the puck is going!

The shootout really favours the goalies (like the penalty shot).  Very few skaters have a good SO record.

Good point also Nil! I wonder if it's best to pick a player that is creative and unpredictable!  Maybe even Markov or Plecs! A goalie wouldn't know what to expect and couldn't cheat!

I'd go with that.  A Plekanec, perhaps, or Perezhogin.

Perezhogin would be a great choice right there.

I actually liked dags. The long reach allowed him to score on his two attempts.

david, you bring up a good point! Should we have Dags in the line up on fourth line rather than Downey just for these situations? Dags already got us two extra points because of shoot outs and last night potentially another!

Or, keep Downey because he may give other players a sense of protection?

If you compare skill, Dags has tons more!

AB, that is a really good point. I mean Dags could potentially win you 3-5 points a season just on shootout alone. Hmmmm.

I think that shows you how stupid the whole shootout thing is really. Why not have a guy on your team who is completely useless otherwise, but is a shootout specialist. Kinda like the DB in baseball isn't it?

It's a sad commentary on the goal scoring ability of this team, that there is a view point that the team needs a disruptive force like Dagenais in the lineup for shoot out situations. It would be nice to see someone like Plekanec who has a heavy shot get an opportunity in the shoot out. Even Koviu should be utilized, perhaps between Kovalev and Ryder as a bit of a change up with his moves, between a couple of good shooters. I think the team has some options that they have not explored with their existing lineup rather than reward Dagenais for a dissapointing season.

I can't find a solid reason to bring back Dags. Even putting him on the 4th line would be a mistake. The 4th line right adds a much needed dimension to the team with Begin, Downey, and Bonk. They seem to forecheck and add pressure on the other team's D almost on every shift. Actually they've had surprisingly several scoring chances also.

A better solution would to have other players give it a shot like Pleks and Bulis...
