On Huet? Was he a high/low draft pick from by LA? Was he considered a good goalie from France, just not capable of NHL calibre play?
Was he a risk move( by LA) in hopes that he was as good as people figured he could be? Kinda like Streit( the fact that he hails from a non hockey meca place like Swiiss and was a standout)?
Is it possible that this guy was a hidden gem and possible first string elite goalie? Or are we dealing with a Steve Penny type? He sure looks solid in there.
I never saw the guy even play a game before he stood in for Theo in Montreal. Limited play in LA as far as I'm aware. Wasn't Garon in that swap? He's calm and cool. I dig it.
Ya it was the Garon swap. I mean Bonk has not been a standout but he has added size and defensive creativity. So if Huet is the real deal...that trade looks pretty good to me,,,
I could be a better judge though if I had a bit of background on Huet before his NHL debut.
During the Lockout he played for "Adler Mannheim" in the Deutche Eishockey Liga. He took em' to the finals there, but lost 4 straight to the ever feirce Eisbaren Berlin.
Not alot out there about him. Infact, I've got a listing of "notable European Goalies" and there are some pretty obscure names on the list, yet this guy isn't on it anywhere.
He was the MVP his last four years in Europe and Jack Todd, a local writer, has said that at least one scout believes him to have #1 potential. I have heard he is leaving after this year... is that for sure and why?
Nil'd, for a thirty one year old guy, it looks like he just deceided one morning in 2001 to throw on some skates...it's weird.
Habtastic. Thanks for the Jack Todd info. But I wonder what he bases his thoughts on? 4 years in European league does not mean much. Heck, remember Dipeitro? I think he cleans up over there...
All I know is Huet looks calm and cool. Like vetern. Sometimes he looks like he has an attitude that he knows he is good. I like that confidence. But I still have to question what on earth his background is saying.
Has there ever been a player (goalie or not), who just shows up late and is an elite player??

If Bonk were to pick his play up, suddenly that trade wouldn't look so bad huh?

I can remember seeing Redek with Ottawa against New Jersey about 4 or so years ago in Kanata. This guy was awesome. I was stoked when he came to La Ville, but, man, he's been pretty invisible to me since he got here. Just my opinion.
I never even looked there! I go there all the time to check stats and stuff. I thought, "they won't have any other stats other than the ones I already have."
He keeps gining the guys chances to win with his stellar performances, but theycant get the puck in the net. Ya we got a point but they should have won that game for hiom. I mean Kovy missing the open net onthe shootout come on

I too thought Bonk was our man, EXACTLY the kind of player we needed to complement small players like Koivu and Ribeiro. And who'da thunk we'd have yet another mini-centre totally ARRIVE the way Plekanec did and push Bonk even further down the pecking order? The only compensation is that Bonk is getting better lately.
